A good inkjet printer?

I am looking for a printer to replace my old hp inkjet. I would like an all-in-one, but do not need fax.

 

Inkjet or laser? Office type of use or general "home" printing? Are you interested in printing photos? If yes amount of photos and quality? Amount of documents? Any special needs about the scanner? Do you need double side printing? Ethernet? Wifi? Bluetooth? ...budget?

Buy a Lexmark Pro 205 wireless it's cheap now, but very good for what you get for your money.

I always buy canons but they can be large especially the all-in-ones. If you do a lot of printing get one with indidvidual inktanks for each color, If you do alot of black/white printing (text) get one that has an extra large black tank.
I have the canon mp530 been extremely reliable for almost 2 years that I had it.

Really good machines with nice features. (I can't find it written so I'm not sure if it has double side printing. But by checking the tray I guess it does.)

With Lexmark indeed you get more features for less money, bur if you want a bit higher quality and lower maintenance costs I would go with HP.

 

I've always been a longtime fan of HP printers....they seem to do better in the long run. However, in recent times their driver packages for home grade printers have gotten so dang bloated.

I've become a fan of Canons products lately.

Lexmark...I run far far away from, for many years have always had issues at clients with them in the home market as well as business market (and the Dell printers they were making for a while).

 

epson artisan 800 refurbished even prints on cd's and dvd's they come like brand spanking new and have the full 1 year warr just like new available directly from epson for 109.99 with free shipping. the newer model runs 200-300 depending if you find a good sale or not. awesome printer. otherwise the hp officejet pro series though you will not find one for the price of the epson imo

btw use coupon code DADSAV through june 18th and get an extra 10% off the new model artisan 810 at 180$ free shipping but brand new. looks like the code does not work with the refurb. i own 6 800's and love them.

i get replacement ink from a guy on ebay for under 20$ for full set. his ink works every time in this printer and looks great and they are refillable i buy his refills for about 18$ and get about 4 refills. never had issues with his ink. if you need info lmk. i own a TON of printers (all really current models) incl cannon, kodak, epson, hp, lexmarks etc and i would not buy anything other than epson or hp. do know hp's software SUCKS BIG TIME. i mean it can literally kill a system if it messes up during install and yes ive seen it as a repair tech ive had to clean up the mess left behind a few times by the full hp installer...just a thought

 

I got the Canon also MP version but I like the Lexmark better has 5 year protection warranty. Ink so far is holding up.

The HP 8500 seems to be liked by experts (editors choice on cnet), but users are mixed about it on amazon. Is it any good?

 

mine has broke 2 times. and they only send me a refurb for a less than ONE MONTH old printer which kinda ticked me off a bit. the first time it powered itself off and that was it never came back on again. second one told me the magenta (if i recall correctly) was empty no matter if i put in a brand new oem one or not. they even sent me a brand new set to try nothing worked. overall its a nice printer. my sister in law had the one model up from that one and hers went after i think 5 months. i like hp's overall but i have had issues with that line. the last gen officejet pro's were awesome imo i own a total of 6 l7680's in my office and they use hardly any ink and never in almost 2 years have i had a issue. i actually ordered a spare artisan 800 last night thats how i know that code works lol. honestly man for 95$ it is WELL WORTH it... my sil ordered one today with the code to replace her hp i mentioned above. you can tell how much i like my artisans lol...i own more than prob 25 printers between my home and my office ones... i can tell you for sure which ones take more abuse. the newer model officejets imo are not built as well as the previous gen no matter what you read online. the officejet pro l7680 except for the software (same issue with the 8500 though) and duplexer not always working right is a awesome heavy use printer. newegg sold those refurb'ed a couple months ago for 119 i believe. they may be hard to find now though. i like refurb printers myself they always look BRAND new and i have yet to have one bad one.

if you get the 8500 it is nice and works well UNTIL you have a issue. and i can tell you 100% epson customer service BLOWS hp's away.. as a example i was using a cis system (continuous ink) in a epson i had (a artisan 710) and something happened with the print heads. i told epson what i was using and of course they didnt like it and told me that could be the cause etc etc... but they in the same phone call put me on hold and came back and said another one was on its way with a call tag to take the bad unit back. no questions no issues. lexmark cust service was prob worse than hp though overall.

sorry to drone on just some experiences i can tell you about.

one other note the hp is slightly better on ink then the epson is. not to much but its a bit better though i buy my ink from one ebay seller and i have been buying from him for a long time and i get refillable tanks with 100ml bottles of each color for about 35$ they work great for the epson.

The problem with color ink printer is the color ink that needs to be replace. The cost out weighs the price you pay for the unit. HP inkjets feel into this expensive practice for customers. Most people I know in the IT business will just buy the cheapest HP all-in-one those sold at SamsClub is the cheapest for $39 bucks as the ink to replace this unit cost more than the unit. So the idea is to just dump a good unit and just replace it since you get new unit with free ink.

See since color ink dries up so quickly just siting there in your color ink printer within less than 3 to 6 months depending on the temp and climate conditions you expose the printer to and dust. If you are not using the printer take out the ink and store it in a sandwich size zip-lock bag and stick that into the fridge on a shelf for long storage.

HP printers are good, the all-in-one has issues when they were first release. HP mono-chrome and color Laser for the business world is what repair. The toner (replacement can be made cheap but some of the re-filled ones tend to leak, like from Corporate Express)

I know this is kinda late but i finally got a printer. I got the HP 8500 Wireless for $200(regularly 400). I did prefer the design and functionality of the canon mx870, but their ink costs are outrageous.

$16 for an ink cartridge that only prints 324 pages. I did the math! $45 for an HP ink cartridge that prints 2200 pages vs $108($16*7 cartridges) to get the same from cannon.

Another choice was the epson 810, but their ink costs aren't much better. It would have costed $88 to get the same as HP($22*4 cartridges).

The only printer i could find that competed with HP ink price was lexmark pro 905 which costs $400 currently and hasn't really dropped in price. Even worse is that the low cost cartridge can only be ordered on-line here in Canada. Fine for those in the U.S though(can be found at bestbuy in U.S, $6 for 500 pages).

Just warning those who would buy a printer based on the price of a single cartridge. I have now learned there is more to it.

I am still hoping this printer will even last though, it receives bad user reviews but seems to win editors choice from many experts.

P.S. Ink costs listed above are black ink only, color may be different.

 

So The HP needs 4 cartridges at $22.00 each?

 

Theres too many variables to calculate color so i stuck to black only. The Canon needs 5 cartridges, epson 6, HP 4, so its hard to calculate how much yield/cost you get with color cartridges. Black is only one cartridge for each printer. Then theres the other variable if you want regular or XL.

For example, epson color cartridges are only $13, cannon $16, HP $20. But then theres the yield again. HP claims 1000+ for their color ink, cannon <500 and epson i have no idea. Some companies make it really difficult to find the yield

 

For my 810 I just ordered a High capacity 6 pack which has five colours and one black for $90.00 CDN The high capacity colour cartridges with the exception of the black can only be ordered from Epson. The high capacity are denoted by the #98 while the standard cartridges which can be purchased in stores are denoted by the #99. Standard $11.99 High Capacity $18.99.

Coolio, we just recently bought the 8500 (the model with 2 trays) printer as a replacement for an HP 7780. So far so good, although we had a challenge getting the printer installed on systems in the home network until we temporarily disabled the MS firewall. The print quality and speed are good.

I'd be interested in your experiences with the printer specifically regarding the printed page being "grabbed backwards" by the rollers after printing, jamming the page backward into the feed mechanism. We're still within the 30-day purchase window and so far this has happened twice, with very light duty. It seems like the roller mechanism spits the paper out too fast, causing it to bump forward and then bounce backwards into the still-spinning roller.
