I wish they can release a new version that is as light as the old 2.7. That was the only reason I joined the ESET bandwagon.

    Yes me too.

V3 was a let down and although I`m sure many were happy with the direction Eset took with the "evolution" of NOD32, sadly many others were not.
NOD32 became a bulky generic looking "suite" and there was the loopback issue, which rendered many firewalls useless.

On the plus side it was partly because of this that I switched Linux and haven`t looked back.

There`s one thing better than having a malware free system... that`s having an anti-malware free system

Same here... Plus you can easily make 2.7 "portable" and run scans offline with bootable CD's such as BartPE.

Current versions are a pain to hack, I mean... tweak... for portable use.

 hey friend, ... you know where you are?
Yep, in the ESET Official Forum

Do you read the license agreement when you install ESET security product(s)?

    1. Links to non-english versions are not removed. Why?
    2. And why is EAV for DOS still available for downloading?

Since Amiga, for life of me, I don’t recall being so devoted to one version of AV as with 2.7.

Once ship is charged with Blackspear’s powder of elaborate preparation; voyage remains nothing but pure bliss. Elegant and intuitive look of 2.7 is like coming home, each time I would try anything else, and mind you, I really tried offer from other big names and those trusty and proven freeware choices. Yet, all they only confirmed, how reliable, comfortable and pleasing is using 2.7.

So the last AV update for 2.7 is February 1, 2012. At least to grant us some time to decide which version would be the best replacement for out beloved 2.7.

I was just wondering and attention to all of you who are still loyal to 2.7, and perhaps devoted more time and thinking into your next choice of NOD. To best of my knowledge, Blackspear’s last tutorial remains EAV3.0? I gather, time was not in mercy of making 4.0?

So question is : For how long would Esset support 3.0? I can’t find any roadmap on Esset's site suggesting its fate.

Now that 2.7 is leaving us soon, I feel mighty Blackspear should really consider 4.0 Tutorial, or, for the version, that is at the moment considered the finer selection. I have to say, since 3.0, I barely followed any news of later versions or generations of NOD.

That would at least gives us some piece of mind

Thanks for your patience and attention

I dont get why people are so devoted to 2.7
there is nothing wrong with 3, 4.2 or 5. current versions are light on cpu and memory and have tiny updates. have you even tryed 4.2 or 5?
i feel this is one of those things where people said vista is crap even thou they have never tryed it.

after trying almost all antivirus products that exist nod32 seems the best fit for me and my customers and im gonna slowly get all my customers on board with it.
dont think there is anyother product that works well on older systems and it does on brand new systems.

I don’t get it, why people fall into trap of wanting to impose their opinion on others, while missing the essence, where in field of action we are all really right? Dedicted subject of this topic reflects thinking this works best for us! Trying to rationalize such need is to address each of us individually, and then calibrate to your wiz. I don’t care to elaborate why your selection is not my choice, but I bellieve there are more then plenty topics where you can sing the praise for 4x and later.

Let's stay on topic, because 2.7’s time is running out

    Thank you

One reason why the powerful ESET NOD32 v2 is still the lightest may be a reduced set of signatures: the size of Virus signature database is around 22 MB compared to 35 MB in v3/v4/v5
    unfortunately, this mean less detection!

New generation products could have suffered a slowdown in performance due to completely new architecture when compared to the well optimized version 2.

    Hello,

ESET announced in January, 2010 that NOD32 v2.7 is scheduled to be discontinued in February, 2012. I would think that twenty-five (25) months advance notice before end of life would allow someone ample time to make a decision, even if they have a complicated environment to manage.

The ESET v3 products were designed to be installed with the "best" settings out of the box, requiring minor tweaking, if any at all, to obtain the best performance and threat detection. This philosophy has continued in subsequent releases.

The EOL for ESET v3 products (ESET NOD32 Antivirus, ESET Smart Security and so forth) has not yet been announced. When the time for it has been established, ESET will provide its customers with ample notice, just like they did with v2.7, to ensure a smooth migration to a newer version.

    Regards,

    Aryeh Goretsky

Indeed the 25 months notice is very nice and don't see it very often! Compliments to ESET for this.

First of all, allow me to thank you for your kind response.

Indeed, I have to say this is a very gallant of Eset. In fact, I just realized while reading your announcement, 2012 missed my attention entirely. Yes, I wrote the same date in my previous post, but I was really reading like 2011 to be frank. Considering symbolism of that year, some might argue, that this is all the support anyone would ever need - if you know what I mean ;)

But, seriously, this is one of those things that only confirm my appreciation for Nod.

    Point taken.

Please allow me to inquire just a little bit further on this. And this be no more then curiosity at best.

If such courteous fate is given to 2.7 customers reflecting update, say that V3 is given one more year at best… is it stretched to expect definitions would be available with the same extended final period given to 2.7?

Again, thank you kindly for your response

    Hello,

No timeline has yet been established for the end of life of the ESET v3 product line.

Keeping in mind that the program provides a high degree of protection, works well without major issues and is suggested for use in some environments as a workaround for bugs in Microsoft's implementation of WFP for Windows 2008 (the 2008 with the same kernel as Microsoft Windows Vista, not 2008 R2) it is likely to be around for a long time.

Forgive my late reply, and thanks again for your kind response.

So speaking purely of ESET v3; you would see no reason for me to jump from my 2.7, to 3.0 with WS2003 for the time being?

Very interesting, specially useful to know about 2008 R2. And speaking of 2008 R2, I have to say it is most peculiar and restrictive with AV choices. So, which NOD is the really matched for WS2008 RS?

    regards

    Hello,

My personal preference is to always run the latest production version of software unless, for some reason, I can't (compatibility issue, budget, etc.).

If you are not running the latest build of ESET NOD32 Antivirus 3 on your Microsoft Windows 2008 Server (that would be v3.0.695.0, I believe) then you should commence testing now so that you do not have to do a rollout at the last minute with inadequate testing when NOD32 v2.70 is discontinued.

A release candidate for ESET File Security for Microsoft Windows Server is available as well.

    Aryeh Goretsky

Why don't you follow the plan and don't remove the v2 product line pages? Links to non-english versions are not removed yet. You also forgot to add v5 links in the Russian section.

    Hello,

Each region of the web site is handled by the ESET office or distributor for that region. In this case, the Russian distributor still has a business reason for providing that information, so the links remain visible in their region. In North America, they have been removed.

    Regards,

    Aryeh Goretsky

Again, please forgive my late reply and thanks for your kind response.

As recommended, I decided to go with the latest version for 2008., but, with WS2003 decided to go with 3.0.

Please, don't hold it against me Aryeh, but I really feel at home with 3.0, and so much closer to that 2.7 feeling - then with the latest version. I trust the latest, just as I trust Eset, but can't help the feeling of liking earlier versions better. Well, visually that is. And speaking of 3.0, forgive my less informed question - but where on earth 3.0 keeps Quarantine folder? o_O

I thought 3.0 would create such folder, no sooner then something actually gets there. So I deliberately placed something to find the same, but I just can't find such folder on my system drive? Is this completely changed from 2.7? So where exactly is Quarantine folder situated?

I like to make shortcut as I did with 2.7 to this folder.

    regards

While we're reminiscing, I miss the 3.0 man. He had character. This new boy looks like he belongs in a gillette shaving cream commercial.

    Hello,

I am glad to hear you are enjoying ESET NOD32 Antivirus v3.0.

The Quarantine directories are in the following locations:

    %LOCALAPPDATA%\ESET\ESET NOD32 Antivirus\Quarantine\
    %WINDIR%\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\ESET\ESET NOD32 Antivirus\Quarantine\

The exact directory used will depend on whether the quarantined threat was detected from a user or system account.

Since you are now using ESET NOD32 Antivirus v3.0, may I suggest you direct further questions to the ESET NOD32 Antivirus section of the forum? This is the best place to obtain answers about your version of the software.

    Regards,

    Aryeh Goretsky
