Thought the PRO version would be cheaper, especially when there are other comparable products that are cheaper. I'll pass on this one. I am however considering running the free version of PCAV alongside Prevx which is cheaper than PCAV PRO and gives a 100% money payback if infected.

 

I ran a scan of C, an PCA found two false positives. Adware something. One was a Paragon installer, and it was neutralized, and the other with the same name, wasn`t neutralized . I restored it from quarantine, but it got restored to a folder called lostandfound, and i don`t know how to restore it from there

What is that lostandfound folder?

 

Had the same problem (I solved it by using Windows Restore Point), actually your problem describes in my opinion the two weakest points of PCAV.
1. False positives, although that is improving
2. The whole quarantine/neutralize/restore/recycle bin/lostandfound, or however everything is called, system sucks.

 

I agree at 100% why they didn't make a normal notification system so we can chose what to do with the file ?!

 

I have seen several post by PBust (Pedro) that they are working on a better technic so that it will be done differently in the upcoming version(s) I think.

 

Yeah, they are working on a better quarantine system.

 

I think it would be interesting to hear the reasoning behind implementing the current quarantine method. From what I'm seeing, the PCAV team are now having to refactor the quarantine system; it may have been better to use the standard method (i.e. a single quarantine folder) in the first place as now extra work will be needed to create the "better quarantine system".

 

Yeah, I do not see why PCAV couldn't move the infected/suspicious files to a certain sandboxed folder, like any other AV on the market.

 

I am hoping this get changed in the next release.

I dont mind paying that to start with, but for loyalty maybe a 50% reduction for annual renewals/upgrades

Lots of FP's and like everyone else noticed, auto-deletion and all that stuff with quarantine/restore etc. simply sucks, GUI is pure horror.

Actually the product did very well. Nothing got through. He seemed disappointed.

 

You would have thought so but we Brits get stiffed again on pricing; it's only $30.

 

I used to like his tests, but he became a total, not indepedent, ****. He thinks his own tests are the truth and doesn't have any drawbacks. All products are not worth paying for since the almighty Comodo exists.
If a product does well he blames the links: he just gets the links from a site. He thinks malwaredomainlist really is all malware and he selects only zero-days. Also if Hitman Pro doesn't find anything he says the links are too new and no one detects it yet, instead of starting to have some doubt about his own methods. In addition he says that if the system seems clean all products failed, only not Comodo since Comodo is perfect. He counts leftovers as malware. Next to that his method of selection is stupid: most of the time he just picks the same "malware" piece multiple times, but just hosted on different sites. Good job.

Get back to the real world.
A well protected network, an up-to-date Windows 7 machine, an antivirus and some brains won't have any problems in the real world.

 

I like the small, simple GUI, and the way they use transparency. Different colors would make it nicer, but it is great as it is.

 

I agree. Very simple and it works.

 

Agreed, but when you combine that with functionality (quarantine,restore,undo,redo and all that) it's confusing.
Products with higher FP's should ask user about removal with popup, but Panda choose not to, further more when you go to quarantine and select restore, then that item should be cleared from list, instead you have confusing icons.
I really had to see for myself and check if file was really restored or not.

 

I like it's simplicity but I think the graphics look unprofessional, take a look at the minimize/close buttons. Why don't use the Windows buttons which look way nicer (Vista & 7 ofc). avast! 5 has the same "problem", people say it's GUI is great. I don't see why, take a look at the MSE GUI, that is also simplicity but with clean and high quality professional graphics. Or take a look at the new Outpost 7: purely based on Windows stuff, the GUI the popups/messages; it looks great. Or take a look at the Hitman Pro GUI, all Windows integrated and really simple and high quality.
