Re: OFFICIAL RELEASE - Prevx 3.0.5.159 with SafeOnline

Having a lot of problems with this latest update to .159

The .143 worked perfectly but since it updated, it will not load when windows starts, so i manually start Prevx and it appears in the system tray but then disappears again. Most odd.

Windows XP x64 with Mbam on demand and Prevx.

    Regards

Could you possibly try the new beta release from http://info.prevx.com/download.asp?grab=prevxcsibeta ? This could potentially be a build issue on XP x64 which may have been corrected with the new build up now.

Let me know what you find!

Can you try a clean install of this version? Remove via Add/Remove and then reboot and download a fresh copy from http://info.prevx.com/downloadcsi.asp and install and remember to keep a copy of your license code as you will need to install it after the learning scan! And report back to let us know if all is working well or not!

    HTH,

    TH

EDIT: Do as Joe said as he beat me to it again and with different instructions :D

I always do a clean uninstall before installing but that made no difference on several attempts.

Joe the link you provided i did try 3 times. I select the windows x64, english and it appears to run but then nothing. Nothing is actually installed.

    Thxs for the assist.

Follow-up: [D] files seem to cause this. The [D] seems to be age/spread related, but should a file that hasn't been seen much, or is new, be enough to have it labelled as 'malicious' in MyPrevx? Shouldn't a new category relating to age/spread be created so that users aren't mislead into thinking that they're infected with something?

not sure if this is the spot for this post, but here it is.

i believe that Prevx 3.0.5.161 is causing my win xp pr sp3 to bsod on start-up. this is the code i recieve: 0x0000008E (0x00000005,0x805417E4,0xB7013590,0x00000000) this bsod happens repeatedly.

i booted to an FDISR snapshot that had .130 still on it, and windows booted up fine. Prevx eventually auto-updated to .161, and it everything was fine until i needed to do a system reboot (my cable company was having problems and kept dropping my connection, so i had to unplug modem, replug modem and reboot to regain the connection) anyway when windows was loading it bsod'ed again on every attempt. so i booted to a snapshot i had not updated since 12/09/2009 (really old version of Prevx onboard) and it booted fine. i went into Prevx settings and disabled auto-updates, did several reboots into this snapshot, no problems. finally i updated the original snapshot from an archieve of a couple of days ago, and booted into that snapshot with a pre Prevx .161, and windows now loads fine in that snapshot as well.

    i have uninstalled Prevx.

other security apps are: Outpost Free 6.5.xxx/ Defensewall 2.56, and that's it.

I'm sure it's not happening to everyone as my desktop has XP Pro SP3 32bit and I'm running 3.0.5.161 without any problems! But if it is possible to have that version installed and do a scan and send a log to Prevx and any minidump files maybe they can see a possible conflict and fix it at there end! https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=270590

yeah, i am pretty convinced it is conflicting with something only during the loading process, as 161 ran fine when it updated itself.

unfortunately, i no longer have the patience for testing and troubleshooting. i'll give Prevx another go in a few weeks or months.

I was having the same problem with DW as well. I had to uninstall Prevx in safe mode. Then I uninstall DW. Anyways to make a long story short I set self protect to medium setting and now all is working well. :thumb:

I just updated from 3.0.5.159 to 3.0.5.161. First time I ever got update to work when not running an RC. :D

Still had to log in as Admin user though. I wonder when this will be fixed?

If you do happen to have a minidump file from the crash you experienced (in C:\windows\minidump\) we should be able to fix it from there :)

In the meantime, a fresh install should work fine or rebooting after uninstalling/reinstalling should correct it as well.

I don't believe we'll have a mailing list for new releases because of how releases are distributed throughout the community. However, Wilders users here tend to pick up on it quite quickly once it updates :)

As for entering the license - the best way around this issue will be to click Options pre-install and enter in the license key before you're installing so if there was an update being pushed out while you were performing the first install, the license would already be in place.

I just have to mention... Prevx updated for me on two computers recently to v3.0.5.161, and one thing has become very apparent to me. And that is, I have never had a security program auto-update itself so flawlessly, so easily, without any hassles or reboots, as Prevx now does. It's impressive. :thumb:

    Thanks Joe

A mailing list for resellers would be handy... you used to send one out for CSI.

I've not noticed "options" before, I'll try it next time, thanks.

Now, that's amusing....Thanks for the chuckle!

Either thats a trolling comment / dig ...... or entirely foolish.
Whether its a BIOS update, Windows update, or any software vendors patch - - - many do not post change logs, and those that do absolutely do NOT reveal all the glitches and oopses they fix.

For Prevx to be deliberately transparent and post extensive changelogs adds to their credibility, not detract from the product.
Other vendors would be wise to follow Prevx lead and be less concerned with what the marketing department thinks of the technical change log .....

Be careful, the Kool Aid is not your friend ....

OT - PSO v3.0.5.161 working great here.

The update for me resulted in the complete loss of Prevx. After the automatic upgrade, the icon disappeared from the tray. Prevx's shortcut was still there, but attempting to run it did nothing.

I decided, perhaps it needed a reboot. A reboot got me a BSOD. More attempts to reboot brought the same. Since I run Rollback RX, I rolled it back to before Prevx uploaded itself. I then uninstalled Prevx, and downloaded the upgrade. I attempted to install the upgrade, but every attempt to run the installer gave me a BSOD.

Actually, I loved Prevx. However, I don't expect that much trouble from automatic updates of a product I''ve purchased, nor do I consider sending in memory dumps and such reasonable for a commercial product.

Prevx is gone from my machine, disappointingly. I've installed Avast as a replacement, and Hitman Pro. Prevx, I'll pass on until sometime in the future, perhaps when it has matured.
