Hitman Pro does scan the temp folder. It scans indeed processes and critical folders and temp is one of them. So ain't it possible it was just a harmless leftover file? Because Hitman Pro doesn't have remnant scanning (yet).
This is the strong point of MBAM, it also scans purely on filename, in my pinion that is a little bit dubious, but it is effective. Also MBAM counts all traces as a different malware, so the registry key, the startup process and the file make 3 infections, instead of 1.
Otherwise Hitman Pro just missed it, can happen.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

    The Standard Scan scans:

    1. Every file that is currently loaded in memory (processes, modules, handles, etc).
    2. Everything that automatically starts at boot
    3. Window's system area's (most stuff under C:\Windows or deeper)
    4. Entire C:\Users (or C:\Documents and Settings) including sub directories (that includes the user's temp folder)
    5. Some specific folders under Program Files

The Quick Scan only scans #1, #2 and a subset of #3.

The Early Warning Scoring is the same as the Standard Scan but this method also lists stuff that is Unknown to the cloud (ie. potential rootkits, recent software that is badly written/poorly installed or when it came from blacklisted internet locations).

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

Hitman Pro (on an EWS, at least) takes minutes to scan the last file (which is often different, seeing how Hitman Pro scans).

Right now, it is taking over 7 minutes to scan OLESVR.dll I'm going to cancel the scan (usually, I don't have to as it takes about 2 minutes to scan the last file).

By the way, I have reverted back to an image with only Windows installed (not because of the other issue with Hitman Pro) and I am using the /noinstall command line. This has been happening before reverting back to the image.

Edit: I have just ran a default scan and another EWS. It took 2-3 minutes to scan xwizard.exe on the default scan and 3-4 minutes to scan nppdf32.dll (belongs to Firefox) on the EWS. Is this normal?

This is not normal. After an Unknown file is uploaded, it should take max. 10 seconds for the cloud to classify it. If the file is known it should only take 1 second.

EDIT: We are having problems with our DNS entries which could also be the problem of the currently long timeouts.

Since my question wrt the boot scan apparently got lost in the thread... Eric -what's up with that scheduled scan? I still get the scan running on every single reboot, on multiple boxes. Needed to disable it altogether.

Are you running Hitman Pro with administrator privilege? Or are you running it under Sandboxie or SuRun?

It doesn't matter. Administrator or LUA/SuRun, it gets run on every reboot. I have never run it under Sandboxie, what'd be the purpose of that? :) Also, according to this thread I'm definitely not the only one having the issue.

Are you running it from the automatically created shortcut or have you maade your own shortcut towards a non Program Files location?

Sorry, I don't understand the question. o_O I run it from whatever autorun location is saved in registry, not clicking any shortcut. I didn't move the thing or customize the shortcut in any way either.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

I am sorry, I'll explain a bit more on the Scan at startup setting:

    1. When the HitmanPro35.exe is started from a non-Program Files location (ex. from a download folder), it installs itself by copying its EXE to the Program Files\Hitman Pro 3.5\ folder and creating a registry value under the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\ key (WinXP) -OR- creating a Scheduled Task (Vista/Win7) for its Start at startup feature. Also a few Uninstall registry entries are created to add Hitman Pro to the Add/Remove software control panel.

You can override this installing behavior by creating a registry key:
    HKLM\Software\Hitman Pro\NoInstall REG_DWORD 1
... or you can create a shortcut to the HitmanPro35.exe and specify /noinstall as command-line switch (see this download page for more command-line options).

    2. If you go to the Settings window in Hitman Pro you can uncheck the Scan at startup function. This deletes the mentioned Run entry (WinXP) or Scheduled Task (Vista/Win7). You must have administrator rights (write access to the key) to delete the entry. Under Vista/Win7 this is ensured by a manifest embedded in the EXE.

    3. If you run the HitmanPro35.exe again from a non-Program Files location it will perform the actions at item 1 and so Hitman Pro will Scan at startup at next startup.

    4. The Scan at startup is only run when the last complete scan (without detected threats) was more than 24 hours ago.

    I hope this helps.

Yes, and this never worked. Once again, reboot -> scan runs. Absolutely doesn't check for 24 hours.

As for the shortcut, hope this screenshot clears this up:

    Sorry for the delay o_O

If you perform a manual scan does the Hitman Pro update the registry value LastScan (under HKLM\Software\Hitman Pro\) ?

    Hi.

I'm still getting the Repair Winsock detection. Also, immediately after scan is complete and click on the 'Close' button, I get a BSOD!

    Ned.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

Is the BSOD reproducible? Does it happen every time you click Close after scan?
Also, when the computer boots, can you sent the .mdmp file that is displayed in the "Computer terminated unexpectedly" dialog?
