I have recently installed Paragon Backup Pro 10 on a Win 7 64-bit computer (Lenovo laptop) with USB 3.0 ports. I created a backup to an external USB 3.0 drive without a problem. When I attempt to access the archive with the WinPE Recovery CD, it does not see the drive. Obviously, I need the 3.0 drivers for my USB 3.0 controller. However, since as I understand it, the WinPE CD is 32-bit, so I cannot use the drivers from my system which is 64-bit. The driver files on the computer or USB manufacturer sites are contained in an .exe installation file.

    1. How can I extract the 32-bit drivers from that or is there some other reliable source I can get the drivers from?

    2. I noticed another person who had tried a USB 3.0 drive, loaded the appropriate drivers, and it still did not work. There was no response to his issue when he received an error. When will Paragon WinPE Recovery CD support USB 3.0?

Try this to extract the drivers.

    Make a folder, e.g. C:\mydrivers

    open cmd prompt:

    CD <download directory>

    yourdriver.exe /s /e /f c:\mydrivers

I don't believe MS WinPe supports usb 3.0 yet.

    It is coming for PE3 - and ( I hope) for PE2.1

It is running the graphical installation. I don't think that is what your suggestion was trying to do. I do have a Vista 32-bit system. If I run the installation there, will that cause any issues with that system and will it be easy to remove the drivers afterwards?

It should be extracting the contents into of the .exe into the folder you specified.

Check and see what is in the folder.

    Or try this:

    yourdriver.exe /A /P c:\mydrivers

If you prefer, you can use http://legroom.net/software/uniextract to do the job.

OK, I went through with the graphical installation. It got to the point when it asked me where I wanted to put the drivers. I selected my folder I created and it extracted the files there. At the last dialog box, it asked if I wanted to install the drivers. I cancelled out of that and copied the x86 folder to a USB 3.0 flash drive. When I booted up with the WinPE Rescue Disk, I loaded the drivers via the "Load Driver(s)" menu. It came back with a successful load message. I then choose "Run DB 10" from the menu. It thought for a while and finally came back with an error message "I/O error on hard disk drive 2 has occurred. What would you like to do?" I believe drive 2 is the USB 3.0 drive. This is the same problem that the person in this post had. How can this be resolved?

Edit: When I cancelled out of the error message, DB 10 came up. It does recognize the USB 3.0 drive (Disk 2), but indicates that it is "Not formatted"o_O

I think it may be an issue with Win PE 2.1 and usb 3.0.

In any case, how come you didn't install the drivers into your WinPe disc, instead of loading them every time.

I assume you are using Vista 32 bit drivers?

I used the self-burning .exe file that comes with DB 10 Pro to create the WinPE disk. Is there a way to add drivers to that before burning the disk? The drivers I used were from the x86 folder of the extracted driver install folders.

    Edit:
The WinPE DB 10 Pro was able to see a USB 2.0 Flash Drive ok in a 3.0 port. Under Win7, the external 3.0 drive uses the same drivers as the regular hard drive (basically "disk.sys" and "partmgr.sys"). I am not sure where the problem is.

Yes, copy the cd you made onto the HD. ( Put it in the dvd drive , rt click the dvd drive and select COPY, rt click your hd, e.g. C and PASTE.)

    D/L this, http://cid-b0a22789320e3247.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/pe/AddDriversToPe.zip

Rt click and run as admin on the IN7_ .cmd ( if you are booted into win7), or the IN7VistXP_ .cmd ( if you are booted into Vista/XP )

Browse to BOOT.WIM of the paragon files you just copied to the hd ( not the BOOT1.WIM).

    Then browse to the driver.inf.

    That's it.

I am unable to get anything from that link using either IE8 or Firefox. The page displays, but when I click on "Download" or the icon, I either get nothing or a blank page. No download starts.

I have opened a support request with Paragon. I have sent them some logs which they requested

    Hi,

    Works fine for me.

Maybe you need to login to skydrive - use your Live ID.

Don't think Paragon can help with that.

The quickest and easiest is to use the app. I posted.

usb3 sockets are backwards compatible with usb 2.0

Tho you plugged it into a usb 3 socket, you got usb 2 functionality.

No soap, can't get it. I set up a live.com account (as much as I hate to use MS sites), but that made no difference either. The icon links to a livefilestore.com site. I will play with it some more.

Paragon said they were going to do some testing using USB 3.0. I understand that Win7 SP1 will carry support for USB 3.0. We probably will have to wait for a WinPE based on that version of Windows to get USB 3.0 to function.

    Yes. that's right.

I don't know why you are having trouble with skydrive. o_O Plenty of people download from there everyday.

If you manage to get connected to skydrive properly, There is a little app. here http://cid-b0a22789320e3247.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/pe/Parpecreators.zip

you can use to create a PE3 disc/flash with lots of functions as well as adding drivers and including Paragon apps.
