what the hell happened to norton?

last time i tried norton it was the gamer version of the antivirus only. there was a notable increase in boot time and when opening certain programs.
im trying nis 2010 everything enabled still running the programs in my signature and i really cannot fault it i cannot see any slowdown whatsoever.
im trying it because a rogue installer got past my set up recently, causing my to use my an image restore.
been 4 days now and i m really liking this program!
and i never thought i would say that!

I tried norton IS some days ago. It was light(Not very light) on resources.

Then i tried to install a rogue (1month old) it did nothing.

 

You of course submitted it to Norton so that it can do something about it

 

look's to me like rogues are currently winning the battle against most av's

 

rogues might get past some or all AV but I hope/know they don't get past user's multi layered defence

Norton last years improved greatly in all components. I think NIS 2010 is best solution available here, It has everything users want.

It is very strange that Norton did nothing. At least I would have hoped that "file insight" would have done something by giving you a warning through a pop-up. Anyway could you pm me that rogue sample?

Nice to see another user (re)trying Norton. Too many still refuse to accept that it is now something worth using and continue to recommend against (because it's "bloatware"), bash, etc. Norton.

You just have to spend a day at Yahoo! Answers.

 

I was a skeptic, but I tried NIS 2010 a few months ago on my fairly low end laptop. Norton is light on my system and it has stayed. I think that it might be a keeper at least for me.

It would help to document this accurately. Can you identify the "rogue" and describe what you did?

 

I believe Norton is the best AV out there. 2011 beta makes it look like the trend will continue.

 

Version 2011 is even lighter and faster.

It's not my AV product of choice, but it has improved in some areas (like lightness and detection.)

Norton 2010 really got changed, and their upcoming version is also going to be good. I am sure that it will again won the GOLD Award of AV Comparatives for the year of 2010-2011

Well the problem with 'detecting' many rogues is that while they're malicious in intent in code terms they're actually benign.Pretty much the only way to detect these is by blacklisting,a monumental task given the huge volume of rogues constantly evolving.It's no surprise that some will slip through the net of any AV.

I thought that Norton IS had some sort of reputation based alert system though,so i'm a bit surprised that some sort of warning wasn't present with the reported bypass.
