Eset 4 Smart Security + HP 2575 and Win7

Having some issues getting this combo to work :-

Windows 7 x64
Eset Smart Security 4.0.474 x64
HP Photosmart 2575 - Wired connection to network

This combination seemed to work fine with XP and Vista only since the move to Win7 has it been a problem.

The installation either detects a printer and then fails or fails to detect the printer at all.

The installer recognises that ESS is installed and prompts to change to interactive filtering mode but the printer fails to be found on the network.

I can reach the printer status page via its IP address in IE.

Anyone see or heard of this problem please ?

Does disabling firewall make a difference? If so, enable fw as well as logging all blocked connections in the IDS setup, reproduce the problem and then check the fw log for details about the rule that blocked the communication. Post the relevant log records here so that we can see what communication is being actually blocked.

 

HP software is notorous for being buggy espeically where the network detection is concerned.
Try disabling the firewall or searching by the printers IP address.
I presume you're using the drivers for Windows 7 rather than Vista. If not you can download them from HP.

 

If you have disabled the Windows firewall, enable that before you try installing the printer - had all sorts of fun with a HP 1018 laserjet installation and learned this the hard and long way.

Once you have completed installing the printer, you can again disable Windows firewall

 

Disabling the ESET firewall makes no difference its seems

Yes am using the drivers for Windows 7 released in October 09.

 

Do they have an uninstaller for this printer that removes all the software.
Had to this for my all in one. Uninstall then run there cleanup utility then delete directories. Even then out of three computers I had even this wouldn't work.
Next stage is try the Vista drivers as they should install.

 

This was from a clean Windows 7 installation.

The Vista drivers DO NOT work, hence trying the Windows 7 ones.

No luck on either front.

Worked fine under XP and Vista.

Seen some other posts over on the HP forums saying that the installer doesnt even start to run

 

Ok - So I finally got this to work

4.2.35.0 version of Eset. So I tried with another PC, same printer and same OS clean install. Failed the first 2 or 3 times then worked.

As a reseller I've had problems yesterday with 2 other ESET installations and network printers.

Another HP one and also a Kodak ESP7 (latest version of ESS). All display similar symptoms but ultimately networked printing fails to install.

 

Well, HP printer drivers are enormous piece of garbage. If at all possible, avoid their "full CD" software like plague. It will install about a gigabyte of nonfunctional resource-hogging nonsense on your computer that fails to uninstall properly and printing still won't work. The only usable stuff from them are the universal print drivers (PCL5/PCL6/PS). You might have some luck by installing the printer as local USB one, then changing the port to standard TCP/IP in Windows.

 

Yeah I think I'd agree BUT I now have a Kodak doing exactly the same thing.

I did also try your other suggestion. Install via USB and get it working, then change it to a network based connection. This didn't work with either HP printer.

All 3 of these are the all in one type that consumers are normally buying rather than just the basic inkjet.

 

Yeah, I know what you are talking about. I spent a couple of days pulling my hair out trying to get those work. If you really think it's ESET's fault, then uninstall ESS, install the printer, reinstall ESS, set to interactive and try to print/scan/whatever else so that it prompts. However, I can assure you that I had the same problem without any firewall involved, even w/ Windows firewall disabled.

 

Not neccessarily but, on my partners PC it was connected via USB to begin with and its not till I installed 4.2.35.0 that it worked and it worked first time.

Clean install of Win7 on mine and it failed first 3 times then worked.

So something is amiss and the fact that another manufacturers drivers are having the same problem doesn't inspire me with confidence.

So yes much pulling of hair. Problem is more and more customers getting these all in one networked printers and therefore Im getting more problems

The Kodak install last night the 3rd time was done using interactive firewall mode. It found it during the install but subsequently it wasn't available - status offline. It really is driving me nuts.

Try the Network Diag Tool for the HP Network Printers.

Try setting the printers to static IP. HP driver install do not play well with the network names and dhcp. If the IP changes the port name does not find the printer all the time.
