Oh my God Oh my God Oh my God... Good bye my friend I remembered the time when you were quite big and cumbersome. Then, these tech guys put you on a diet and shrunk your waist line. I never realized that they shrunk you so much that you eventually gave up the soul. Good bye dear friend I shall miss you. . Thanks.
Okay - so who remembers the predecessor to the 3.5? I'm dating myself, but it was the 5 1/4 floppy with a tremendous amount of storage - 365k or something like that.
I Still have 5 floppy drives, in which i kept my first program in foxpro 6.0 ...It was on Movie Library Management. Last year i ran those floppies and one of them worked..
Oooh. Do you have any diatribes about mainframes? lol, my dad was in computers early on, that same era. He still salivates over mainframes. I remember as a kid going to visit him and seeing the huge reel to reel data tapes. Holy cow, he is about deaf now due to the noise the IT rooms had back then. I don't know why they still call them floppy drives, they have not been truly floppy for a long time. Sul.
I have some 8 inch at around 100-500kB (still have some of the machines from back then also) I still have Windows on floppy.
Damn you guys are really oldies I only got to use the floppies (I had lots of them until my floppy drive screwed up, since then all my floppies went to the trashcan)
I think I've read somewhere that Verbatim is going to continue the production like "forever". So I don't see any issues for the floppy lovers.
I recently came across some 5 1/4 floppies in a dark corner of a closet. I had labeled them as "Retain-DO NOT DISCARD" some 25 years ago. Now I'm really curious about the info on them. What I had considered so important at that time? I guess I'll just go on without ever knowing.
Yup...stacks of punch cards. Ahh good old fortran77 and watfive. And then cassette....and the 5.25" actual floppy before the rigid 3.5" floppy.
