I have an external 1.5tb sata drive in a usb/sata enclosure. It worked flawlessly everywhere and on all my pcs except, until recently, on an old dell laptop with windows 7. I've uninstalled & reinstalled the usb drivers on this dell laptop and still it doesn't recognize the 2nd partition, though it used to without a problem for several weeks. Its not the drive because I plug it in elsewhere and can see both partitions w/o a problem. Any suggestions?
Were these drivers supplied by the enclosure manufacturer? try going to the device manager and uninstall all your usb root hubs and host controllers. then reboot.
I tried that except for the immediate reboot after uninstal yet still didn't work. This problem is getting to be grossly annoying, the mfg doesn't have drivers for the enclosure nor have they answered a tech support email . Oddly enough if I goto a partition management program it shows a healthy ntfs partition without a drive letter thats 100% free space. I can immediately plug it into another computer and it shows the drive letter, works perfectly and shows my presumably correct amount of free space. Windows 7's usb generic drivers that it coughed up for a legacy Dell Inspiron 6000.
