I don't know which was the last update, but I'm counting this new beta in. That said, the one which I see as the last update never ever gave me a prompt to register or copy or told me I'd "X" days left.

Trust me, 2.6.0 was the last paid update. It's the version I'm still running and is the last version posted on the Torchsoft website. I'm not 'upgrading' to the new version until I have some confidence.

Like I said with other words, I don't care if you say it's paid or not - I sure didn't have to pay anything to use the last version, ever. :D :p

Let's try and clear this up. Xiaolin said that 2.7.0 was leaked by testers and the new version is not yet officially released. The last official version is therefore 2.6.0, which was the paid version.
2.7.1 is beta only, at this point in time, and when it goes final it will be the first free version.
2.7.0 appeared to have several bugs and issues as reported in the chinese forum...which was why it was probably not officially released, and was not the last update.

...and yes, I know you don't care :)

in tourchsoft site latest version 2.60 looks free of charge.
now that beta file comes out clean on virustotal.

  18. Yeah, 2.6.0 appears to be free now. I think. o_O

At any rate, I have a question regarding MD... I've seen a bunch of people say they won't use it any more now that it's gone free. Why? Is development of new features halted or something? Is Torchsoft going broke?

Well I just installed the original 2.6 version I downloaded earlier today from the Torchwood site. Just put it in learning mode and trusted it because I believe my system is clean. I haven't a clue about the interface as yet, but it looks interesting. See attached screenshot.

P.S. It is about 3.00am, time for bed.

Malware Defender (TorchSoft) was sold by the owner (Xiaolin) to 360safe www.360.cn (https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=1650764&postcount=79). The free version which is still in beta can be downloaded from the company's link at: http://dl.360safe.com/md_setup_en.exe. The current version is 2.7.1 and is a stable beta. Xiaolin is employed by 360safe and is going to continue the Malware Defender project although name will probably change.
