lol and everything comodo does bad on, they get themselves either taken out of the results so they dont spoil their "good name" or get themselves alone retested after doing a quick "patchup" to pass the test

And if you don't like PC Magazine

Consumer Reports (June 2010) took a crack at them too in their review of Security Software. With about the same conclusions for Comodo, Norton at the top again. Definitely not the darlings of the popular press, where the noobs and regular people get their information. ;)

I would be using Comodo but their software blocks Chrome, same as PrevX Safe Online :(

I'd be using comodo too. With all these accusations flying around it's kinda made me rethink things.

In the past I used CIS on an old desktop because it was (recommended as) light on resources relative to other packages/combinations that offered equivalent protection. But now:

    Comodo = "Surprising Performance Hit"

Comodo added "22 percent to the time required" for "lengthy file move and copy operations."

With Comodo "web pages took 39 percent more time to load."

"Comodo added 70 percent to the time required for running a script that automatically installs and uninstalls several large Windows Installer packages."

"Comodo added a whopping 155 percent to the boot time, more than doubling it."

I guess all of above mentioned are not the case for CIS without AV installed, which is my case and many others.

Probably Chrome got sandboxed. You should place all Chrome executables in the my safe software list or something and then restart your computer and see what happens next.

    Thanks.

There is a passion to hate anything Comodo at Wilders. What you should do is to think for yourself and investigate the matter in order to see if there is any credibility on these issues. Do not let yourself to be easily persuaded in anyway or on any issue. Think and test it for yourself.

    Thanks.

Oh believe me I know that. Things change around here in a heartbeat. Next week comodo may release 4.1 and all the issues will be resolved. Then you'll here the critics changing their tune.

Alot of people said that about norton too. Now look at how that changed. I said that about norton 2002-2007. I wouldn't use it on my machine. I do recommend it to other people though.

If Comodos detection is approaching the big boys, then perhaps they might want to be included with the big boys at AV comparatives.

yeah why not and if they fail (pretty sure they will) they can just request AV-Comparatives to blank out their results :argh:

Comodo has some steps to go. They need to improve all the bugs they have before moving on. Thats why I think that Ver 3 was good. It was simple and it worked. Comodo then went on to ver 4 with the sandbox. They should have continued developing the AV before moving on.

    Code:
    s/improve/fix/g

:D Other than that, it's already been said somewhere here by someone else - jack of all trades, master of none. That's the biggest issue w/ Comodo and I don't see it changing anytime soon. Would basically require getting rid of Melih and his broken corporate 'culture'.

I thought it was a fair review and very accurate. Comodo is nowhere near being "big league" and should take the hits like men when their products don't hold up to the big boys.

My problems are 1.) their reliance on the ask.com franchise to help fund their development, 2.) the AV has always been one of the worst, and, 3.) they are just too scattered. They go from one project to the next to the next to the next, ad infinitum. It seems they never take the time to put quality into any single project to make it first-class. You know, the old saying, "I'd rather do 1 or 2 things really well than 15 things and they only be mediocre." This isn't a race to see who can develop X number of products by X date. Patience, Comodo.

Beyond the review, there's just too much information, from too many sources, saying the same thing; that the company is a disorganized, unorganized, manic mess. Which all goes back to their lack of patience in developing quality products before moving on to the next and the next and the next.....and what do you end up with? Reviews like the latest from PC Mag and Consumer Reports.
