I'm there everyday. Are there more than "some"? can you count them for me please? and don't forget to include the other million of users not having this "update issues".

Sign up for their news letter and do your updates manually..

Just put a tic in the box next to the applications you want.

I do all of my updates this way

Wait a moment ;) . I like Avira very much and I'm satisfied to use it. In the thread about the update issues I spent my words to defend it although I also had those issues. If someone asks if there are again problems to update - see the post 103 - he's only looking for info, I believe. No panic, but just to know.

Hello. I've been using the free version(Personal) since the 28th of April 2010. Since that time it has auto updated once at approximately 11.30pm Toronto Canada time. Every other update has been user initiated. So I changed the update schedule from 1 Day, 00:00 Hours, 00 Minutes to 1 Day, 19:00 Hours, 00 Minutes but nothing happened. Am I doing anything wrong?

Hello The Hammer, take a look at their forum, everybody expect a fix soon. http://forum.avira.com/wbb/index.php?page=Board&boardID=135
The only workaround is to schedule yourself one or as many update jobs as you want (see attached jpeg). It's working without problems. You can watch the Processes in Task Manager and at the scheduled time you will see Avira updater is working and doing the job.
P.S. I don't have the same issue with NOD32 v4 on my main PC :D

LOL. I didn't have that issue with NOD 4.2 either but as my licence was due to expire and I was experiencing the slowdown issues reported by trjam in threads at the Eset forum, I decided to trial the Avira Personal as I'd never tried anything but Norton or Nod. Hmm both start with the letter N perhaps Norman next. Just kidding.;)

Thanks jedi_m. Scheduled two update jobs as per the jpeg. That should be a sufficent number. But should I uncheck "Repeat job if time has expired" in the regular updater?

Yes accordind with the guys from Avira Forum. I didn't uncheck it on my laptop and it's working. Watch the update job in the Task Manager and see if it's working.
    Have a good day

So far checking reports and events, the only updates other than that one time, have come from jobs I've scheduled. So I'll leave the regular updater alone for now and keep an eye on it.

The updater will start up, but that doesn't necessarily mean it updated anything. Even if you look in "reports" and it says "Update was successful", that doesn't guarantee that anything really updated, just that it tried to. You have to click on "display selected report" and check to see if it really updated anything.

I have heard that if you set it to update more than once a day (personal version) that it won't really do it... or at least only do it once a day anyway. I haven't tested the theory myself though. I always just had it check once a day, when I'm sleeping.

I've scheduled three update jobs one each for Morning ,Afternoon, and Evening and Personal has updated each time so far. I can confirm that update files were downloaded. I've also randomly clicked on start update at times and if there is no update the pop up will say so. However it is reported as a successful update in the Events and Reports logs.

Avira seems to have auto updated this evening at startup. The computer was off all day so none of the scheduled update jobs had kicked in as I didn't have the repeat if time expired option enabled for them. The repeat option was enabled for the auto updater though.

It may be that leaving the auto updater at 1 day 00 hours, 00 minutes may be the key, or am I just fooling myself? Because when I altered the updater to 1 day 19 hours, 00 minutes which I believed meant once a day at 7pm, it never did work.

TheHammer: It's just an interval. So setting it to "1 day 19 hours, 00" will trigger the update every 24+19 = 43 hours.

If you want to use a specific time, you can use the scheduler as in V9. For most people a specific intervall should be sufficient though. Mine is 15 minutes :)
