This is something to do with PrevX I think?

How to stop it happening?

 

Fault Module Name: PxSecure.dll_unloaded is a Prevx component did you try rebooting? If that doesn't work try a reinstall of Prevx! Remove via Add/Remove and reboot and download the latest version here: http://info.prevx.com/downloadcsi.asp and install and make sure you have a copy of your key as you will need to install it after the learning scan!

I have only just two days ago, rebuild a clean WIn7 Ultimate base & freshly installed the latest PrevX version 3.0.5.130, so I can't really see how reinstalling it again would help?

I have got SecureOnline switched off, so I am puzzled why PxSecure.dll is even loading?

I am getting this crash *a lot* on the two laptops I have recently rebuilt a fresh Win7 platform. In both cases I installed PrevX v3.0.5.130 freshly. I note that despite me having turned off the Secure Online feature, in both laptops my IE8 has "SafeOnline BHO" (ie PXSecure.dll) Enabled & Loaded as an Add-on. I have now disabled the Add-On to see if this stops the crashes.

By contrast, on my Desktop PC which is also running v3.0.5.130 (but auto-installed as an upgrade) does not even list "SafeOnline BHO" as an available add-on. Needless to say I've not had these crashes on this system.

It seems to me, therefore that the default fresh install for 3.0.130 has a bug which installs SafeOnline BHO and leaves it enabled, whether or not the Secure Online feature is switch on or off.

Could you please try uninstalling Prevx and then installing it with this commandline:

prevxinstaller.exe /prop SECUREB=N

This will prevent the PxSecure.dll component from being installed at all. However, if you'd be interested, I would definitely be keen to actually fix the issue - if you could send me a PM, it would be much appreciated if we can have a remote support session where we would be able to diagnose the problem and correct it.

I thought the commandline to do this was: prevxcsifree.exe /prop SECUREB=N

 

Yes, it depends what you name the installer as - whether it comes down as prevxcsifree.exe or prevxinstaller.exe (or a few other names, i.e. PREVXFACEBOOK.EXE)

 

is it /prop SECUEB=N (as in post 4)
or
is it /prop SECUREB=N (as in post 5)

and it is as per 9th post
/prop SECUREB=N

 

my IE8 has been fine,

i did have a PX file crash my system to BSOD yesterday, but i aint blaming Prevx one bit!

this is because my CPU jumped to over 100c and then my motherboard shut my machine down. <woop?>

found the fix, the connector to my water pump had come loose and i was shocked at how quickly the water tubing around my cpu block heated up (less than 10 seconds) to un-touchable, even the plastic tubing had that tacky feeling.

no harm done, but a lucky escapse for sure, connector is now back in place and the water is being pumped around as usual.

the morale of my little tale is, Prevx isnt to blame for everything you know.

The installer that I downloaded from the prevx website was named prevxcsifree.exe, which is what prompted me to ask in case I had downloaded the wrong version. From what you're saying, it sounds as though the filename depends on where you get it from.

Whilst I accept your general premise, you'll see that my crash was definitely being caused by PrevX

 

Yes, I found this option using a forum search over the weekend and tried it out. Since reinstalling PrevX without SecureOnline, I haven't had a single reoccurrence of the crashing. Since I don't want SecureOnline I'm happy to run in this mode from now on.

I do think the option to install PrevX without SecureOnline should be built-in to the installer as a user option rather than being an obscure command line install option.

We do agree that it would be easier to have an option to fully ignore the installation, however, we only have a very small number of users who have opted out of SafeOnline, which is why we currently have not added a function to remove it.

I will monitor the demand for this function to see if it should be implemented but in the meantime if anyone is having reproducible problems with SafeOnline, please send me a PM as we're very keen to fix any issue.

I have for the moment reinstalled prevx without SafeOnline because SO is causing too many problems on my XP Pro SP3 system. Images and icons are getting greyed out on an entirely random basis: one moment everything is working normally and the next everything goes haywire.

By trial and error, I have traced the cause of the problem to SO with Maximum settings. Unfortunately, the problem is not reproducible on demand, as it appears to be entirely random and not connected to any particular activity or sequence of events that I've been able to ascertain.

Since removing SO, the problem has ceased. I appreciate that reducing SO protection from Maximum to High might resolve this, but to me this isn't a satisfactory solution. For the moment I prefer to run prevx without SO installed until a fix for this problem is available.

 

Joe, as you know, I have previously opted out of SafeOnline during installation, and prefer Prevx without it, believing it makes my pc run better without it.
But I'm wondering if SafeOnline comes back with auto updates?
I can't tell if it does or not because I have uninstalled and reinstalled Prevx a few times and probably didn't do the /prop SECUREB=N cmd each time.

 

I believe this is the same issue reported in another thread and we should have it fixed in the next beta version. I'll make a new thread here as soon as it's ready

 

SafeOnline won't come back by itself on an upgrade - you should be permanently "unenrolled" from SafeOnline once installing with that parameter.

Let me know if anything appears amiss if you try uninstalling again and I'll investigate further

I just thought I'd mention that the problems I previously reported are still occurring with the latest production release 3.0.5.143. I still can't reproduce the problem on demand but I can list some of the issues that appear to be connected with this, which may help to diagnose the cause of the problem.

(1) There are never any problems for the first 24 hours after Prevx installation. The first scheduled scan runs and completes normally, and there are no other problems. (Scheduled scans are set to start at the exact time and the machine is left up and running all of the time without a reboot.)

(2) After the first 24 hours, at some point over the next two or three days, a scheduled scan will either fail to initiate or will immediately be associated with the problems described of greyed out images, dialog boxes not displayed correctly, a large number of the Start All Programs shortcuts blanked out, etc. (I can't say whether the problem occurs during the scan or shortly afterwards as I'm not usually around when scheduled scanning takes place.)

(3) After a scheduled scan fails to initiate, the problem will manifest within the next 24 hours. Whether the scheduled scan feature is involved in causing any of this, or whether it's just an early indication that Prevx is already starting to malfunction I can't tell.

(4) After the problem has occurred, the only option is to reboot the machine. Sometimes this alleviates the symptoms for a short while but not always. Sometimes on the reboot Prevx has uninstalled itself and is trying to reinstall itself. It performs the learning scan then asks for the licensing information to be entered.

(5) Instead of rebooting the machine I've also tried uninstalling Prevx to see what would happen. Sometimes this is successful and all the images on the screen return to normal after Prevx has been uninstalled without needing a reboot. This clearly indicates that Prevx is conflicting with something.

(6) Sometimes though, in attempting to uninstall Prevx after this problem has occurred without rebooting, the keyboard drivers have become corrupted and the keyboard unusable. In order to get the keyboard working again I uninstall all of the corrupted drivers using the Device Manager and reboot the machine to see if Plug and Play can reinstall the missing drivers. If that fails, I restore the system partition from an image. (I can still use the mouse.)

(7) Sometimes after the problem has occurred, there is what I can recognise as a Sandboxie dialog box on the screen, even though it is not displayed correctly. It appears that Sandboxie has tried to prevent Prevx from running inside the sandbox. What makes this especially strange is that Sandboxie is not set to force anything to run inside the Sandbox so why it should be interfering with Prevx is a mystery.

The reason that I mention the Sandboxie and keyboard driver issues is that it suggests to me that SafeOnline is possibly the culprit in causing most of this behaviour to manifest. Apart from scheduled scans not always running when they should, I never had these sort of problems with Prevx before SafeOnline was added. I've tried installing Prevx without SafeOnline using the command line switch but that doesn't help either.

I've tried to provide as much information as possible in the hope that it might help with a diagnosis. At present, I've still got a few months left on my current license but these problems make it impossible for me to have Prevx on my machine, and I'm not willing to give up Sandboxie for Prevx. I'd suggest a remote session but I can't reproduce the problem on demand.

Any suggestions you may have would be most welcome.
