ESET - You are losing my business

You're referring to my post? For me, I had temporarily disabled the Advanced heuristics box (enabled by default) in the Web access protection in order to test out the configuration as suggested by gisuck.

However, I am surprised that you have Advanced heuristics enabled initially in Real-time file protection as by default it is OFF, and when I try to turn that ON, it gives a warning about adverse effects on system performance.



Right now my configuration is advanced heuristics enabled in Web access protection but disabled in real-time file protection. The scanWhenDone in Firefox has been false for a long time as well, and I still have freezing issues-> waiting for Marcos to get back to me regarding the videos which I posted earlier today.

Anyway, did you manage to resolve the issue on your computer after what you did?

Would I be right to say that this behaviour of freezing the browser is considered "normal" and inevitable then, if one is to be using any AV at all? This was the point which the OP had made, and what I agreed with mostly- that tweaking settings is probably not going to help alleviate this freezing problem, and maybe someday this can be fixed in a future build, but as far as I have been using ESET NOD32 (since v3.0), this has always been a problem on computers running the NOD32 + Firefox combination. (I considered trying out NOD32 v2.7, but then ESET is no longer offering it for download and also ending support for it soon.)

 

NOD 2.7 would not lock up the computer this way - but its engine was
constructed another way and behaves not the same. not really comparable.
but i would be nice to have the option to limit eset hunger for cpu, eg 80%.
online armor can limit programs but it would fail on ekrn self protection.

 

Is there any way for me to get the NOD32 2.7 installer now? I know it has been taken off the website as per the KB article, but does ESET or anyone keep an archive of previous installers? I'd like to try out v2.7 and see if that finally fixes this problem.

Thanks. I've grabbed a copy of the installers from the links you've provided successfully, along with the v2.7 user manual as well, and will be testing them out in time to come.

It's a good thing they are digitally signed though, because last I checked they probably weren't. Anyway, the SHA-256 of the installers I calculated are as follows, if anyone would like to verify them against their copy:

How do you disable "Web Protection" in ERAC?

ESET Smart Security, ESET NOD32 Antivirus -> Personal firewall -> Setup -> Application protocol content filtering

 

I had the problem with firefox when v3 first came out if I remember correctly, but once I disabled the scan option in about:config in firefox, all went away.. Just a suggestion, but why not try download managers, there are some that you can get that are free, and are a much better option, helps against timeouts, server issues with the download, etc...

 

Well, that doesn't help at all; there's already another thread about this issue, maybe it'd make sense to merge those two.

 

Too funny!.. Eset blocks access to that website.... must be a no-no!

 

Well, not really... Just that they are distributing NOD32 usernames/passwords.

 

Well I haven't checked out the site, but almost "without fail" the sites that are giving away freebies are the ones that give back something you don't want.

Kinda like getting aids or herpies.... not what you expected.

Beware to anyone who wants to play there.

I can't remember the last virus I've ever gotten or detected aside from those kind of sites.

Novices beware...... you almost don't even need AV if your not a novice and know where to go and not to go.

But since I like peace of mind, I have the best radar detector in the world in my car..... I hope to do the same with my AV.
