I use Avast! Home. Before this I used Avira free, but it didn't update, so I switched to Avast. Never really had the urge to look back.
Indeed, that's dangerous, but, as a side note, they are actively developing this product. There are frequent beta releases for who subscribed to them. I'm using the latest beta build 1.0.1801.0, which was released on day 10 of December. It has no "visible" new features, but the raw performance is noticeable improving - I just hope the detection rate keeps getting even better as well, and that the next big reviews (like those from AV-Comparatives.org) show it.
That's always good . I'm just wondering how much time they are willing to put in development though. Anti-virus (security) isn't really their core business. I mean: they added the firewall in XP, and then bought GIANT Spyware to turn it into Microsoft Antispyware (later: Windows Defender). Not many people talk about Defender (You are subscribed to this thread Microsoft Windows Defender: still any good?). Then they came with Live OneCare, which couldn't be called a big success. I'm positively surprised about the good results that MSE shows us. And it's free too.
MSE 2 days with it and wow so far so good light and powerfull i like avast too but this MSE is the best my PC start up 3 seconds faster lol so fast i like the MSE integration with the OS
has anyone tried pctools free antivirus that comes with spyware doctor. i don't know if there is a separate download for the antivirus too but it is fairly good. i have it on one of my machines
Avira for me been using it for a couple of years now. I have gone to avast a couple of times befor Avast 5 because of the avira update problem but not yet had any more probs with Avira now for some time.
I am using Avast and it is running really well so far. Unless it goes crazy I'll keep it a while. MSE was ok, so was Avira free version. I tried Rising and liked it as well. Just nothing seems close to Avast 5 now as far as being lightweight, does not cause any problems, is configurable, and provides an adequate level of protection.
avast! should get an award for the most dramatically improved UI. There's no comparison between v4.8 and v5.0. That aside, it has shown consistent high marks in tests and just has a really great feel to it.
