When creating a installation package, I am using the Editor to add in exclusions. How do I exclude *.adm in the given directory and all subdirectories? This functionality does not appear in the GUI nor is discussed in the documentation.

    We are using 4.0.474.

    Thanks,
    -John

    Hello jftuga,

Try excluding the actual path and let me know if that helps.

    Thank you,
    Richard

    Hello jftuga,

If you don't want to have to add the path of each .adm file to the exclusion list you could just exclude that extension from being scanned anywhere on the machine.

Go to the Advanced setup tree > "Real-time file system protection" > "Setup..." > "Extensions". In this window you can place the extension into the "Extensions:" box and click "Add".

No file with that extension will now be scanned.

This is what I am trying to accomplish:

    Source:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822158
    about 60% down the page...

Turn off scanning of files in the Sysvol\Sysvol folder.

The current location of the Sysvol\Sysvol folder and all its subfolders is the file system reparse target of the replica set root. The Sysvol\Sysvol folder uses the following location:
    %systemroot%\Sysvol\Sysvol
Exclude the following files from this folder and all its subfolders:
    *.adm
    *.admx
    *.adml
    Registry.pol
    *.aas
    *.inf
    Fdeploy.inf
    Scripts.ini
    *.ins
    Oscfilter.ini

So I don't want to exclude all .adm, .inf, .etc files on the entire computer, but nor do I want to to exclude them from a single folder either. How can I do this?

    Thanks,
    -John

    Hi jftuga,

This ESET article recommends having the Real-time scanner scan only the default file set. These are the known extensions that can host or generate a threat.

Doing that leaves only Scripts.ini, Oscfilter.ini, and all files with the .inf extension that need excluding. How many .inf files are in that directory and below?
