How many employees does ESET have?

It is a little silly question I know, but I really would like to know how many employees ESET has in the whole company?

I don't find anything about it on eset.com so that's why I ask here.

Wow, there are some big differences. Some are really small
Prevx - 25
Immunet - 8
Tall Emu(Online Armor) - 20
Alwil - 100
Malwarebytes - 20

But I'm not sure if those numbers are correct, it says superantispyware only has one(and on their site they already list 4 people and they are only the management team)

Avast pretty good, and they give free AV !!

Norton 18000, 17000 are from the marketing department

Hmmm, I acctually thought that ESET would have at least over 1000 people since it is a quite old player on the Av market and ESET was started way back in 1991.

So ESET got 500+ employees after all.

And also it's interesting to see that quite small companys like Avira with (350+ according to their website) can do so well as they do. And Prevx only 25 that's really surprising for me

According to Wikipedia Kaspersky now has around 1700 employees in March
2010.

And Avast that only has 90 employees at the HQ today. Feels little for an mature company that was started way back in 1988.

Trend Micro has 4239 employeees in over 30 countries.

And McAfee quite many as well with around 5000.

But Symantec seems to has the most with around 18000.

Well, one can wonder actually why they need that many people.
Since all they do is in someway connected to It-Security.

I mean Symantec almost got as many employees as Apple

 

A lot of people think about Symantec as the creator of antivirus software and some other minor stuff. They actually have a lot of products. So i'm not surprised at all. It's actually a pretty large software development company.

Sure, but what I meant was that ALL the software they develop is in someway connected to It-security. They got Antivirus, Av suites, Back-up programs etc...

And they need to keep and satisfy the customers they already got so they don't look over seas for other solutions, then those 18000 will decrease am afraid.

 

I see your point, but the importance and focus on IT Security have increased a lot during the last few years and i'm pretty sure it will continue like that in 2010 and afterwards. A software company that focus on backup, security, antivirus and stuff like i think have a lot of potential in the years to come. Also if you look at the companies Symantec acquired during the last 6 years and if they continue like that i think they will grow further and get new customers as well. Of course like every other company if you loose customers and don't get any new the size of the company will decrease, that's pretty obvious. I don't think that will be the case for Symantec.

I also think companies like Eset, Avira, Kaspersky and similar companies could have a bright future if they have the right products that can compete with the rest. Those companies are much smaller and rely just on a few products and it's critical to not fall behind the rest. There is a lot of competition for that kind of products. Let's hope Eset will be among the survivors

Yes indeed.

To clarify, I did mean that Symantec only produce It-security products as you understand.

After reading what I wrote a couple of times it sounds like I meant that Symantec should start developing other products than It-security products like video-games and other stuff with that amount of employees. Wich was NOT my point at all if anyone looked at it that way .

Since I really belive in that It-security companies should focus on It-security to 100% and nothing else.

But if it takes 18000 to develop It-security, that was my wondering...and clearly sometimes it does.
And I know they got at least 1 person at the phone support since I called them up a many years ago, and she was nice

Ok sorry i misunderstood what you said
By the way i called them once and talked to a guy so i guess we can confirm that at least two of them work at the phone support He was helpful, but didn't solve my problem. I was using Vista at the time so i guess that explains the stability issues. Using XP and Windows 7 the same products work fine.
