    FREE!

I prefer Avast FREE over all other traditional free/paid antiviruses

Doesn't anybody find something wrong with how fast Avast was able to complete the test compared to the other participants?

Thats Avast :argh: fast and smooth compared to others. As good as any paid antivirus  . As a second layer sandboxie if anything gets through(rarely that is) . I even only use Vista's built in firewall :thumb: .

I guess it depends on the system. I and others have found Avast! to be slow.

CIS4 is a full suite could try that maybe. the sandbox is really nice now.

the AV is getting better by each version, version4.1 will include big updates for the AV.

Free Avira and Free Avast negates the need for any paid AV period, there is MSE which is an excellent alternative as well.

Avira Free "includes" a lot of update problems, I prefer Avast or AVG. I think there is no need for a paid AV these days :doubt: However, BitDefender would be nice too, but there is no resident guard available in the free version

There is no other free anti virus better than avast,:D It has the fastest updates and is really good. I am not a fan boy. I was useing MSE for a while but went back to Avast. I would like to thank Avast, Avira, and AVG for providing home users with a free-ware so we don.t have to pay $ suckers like nr...ton(sorry about that). Keep it up guys we will always support u:thumb:

Well I guess I'm one of the few that still thinks one should pay for a product if possible. I still believe if you can pay for your security programs, you should. It's the people that pay for the products that allows people to use it for free! Without the $$'s coming in you would have no free programs!

I agree with you markcc. I had used some of the free AV solutions for awhile. I don't know if you are in the minority or not. I certainly don't like spending money just for the sake of spending money, but supporting software developers that provide useful products is important.

I agree with the above. I never feel "right" running free AV products when I can afford to pay. That said, neither will I pay for a version that I can get for free. i.e I will not pay for a version of Avast or Avira; the difference in features between the free product and paid for is just not value for money.

I also find it odd, the difference in speed is phenomenal considering that in most tests Avira is very fast. It is not an important issue, really, but considering how Eset has been tested I wouldn't take these results as conclusive.

Avast Free all the way. Avira and MSE are good free alternatives also.

test mean something not everything to me . i always find it hard to believe if there are people that find their choice in the test alone. I believe more in the experience of many people (like in this forum for example) and the way they treat the products, their vendors the support they have to their clients and so on to understand how the product will or will not be too me. Anyway i have made my choice before i knew there was a forum like this and almost never abandoned it. it is avg by the way and it is just fine. in the beginning i used to use the free one which i liked a lot and then i bought a license for the 7.5 Antimalware and tha year it turned into AVG antivirus 8.

In the current breed of anti malware solutions, I fail to find a better alternative than avast!. Kaspersky comes a close second. Both have some work to do in terms of raw detection power, but they are pretty good as of now. A failed detection in avast! does not concern me much, its the recent reports that web shield notified about blocking some malware, and still it managed to infect the system make me a tad worried. I am sure such cases are few and far in between.
