Those interested in trying the latest Outpost can now pick up the public beta for Outpost 7 from Agnitum. As in the case of any beta software, backups prior to installing is a good idea.

Users will be asked for a name and email to get the download link.

    Public Beta Testing Is Underway

Edit: Agnitum has a blog entry now about the beta. Here.

Ok . That is the " everything " beta . Basically the Suite . Interesting if this is all they have for 2010 , what will license holders of only the firewall do ?

After you register, you get a choice to download the suite, firewall, or AV Pro.

I seriously think Outpost makes one of the best GUI's due to their OS integration (on Vista and 7), next to MSE ofcourse.

Turn off logging to minimize I/O.

Well I have tested it and my conclusion is that OSS v7 has a lot of potential; however there is still a long way to go. There are still bugs left to be ironed out for example the GUI crashed a lot of times with IE8. Nonetheless, I really like the fact that one can quarantine a process and also the fact that a process could be monitored for malicious activity.

OSS v7 also passed all the Comodo leak test (perfect score). The av is Agnitum weakest link; I think that Agnitum is relying to much on the strength of its HIPS to prevent malware infoection. I have tested OSS with 20 malware links and its HIPS was doing all the fight without the help of the AV, the AV was completely silent. Come on Agnitum I'm pretty sure you can rent a better AV engine, please dump Virusbuster. The negative in relying on HIPS is that HIPS can become very chatty and and its success is as good as the user's knowledge in making the appropriate decision.

Also Agnitum pop-ups are worded only for the geek; just think will the everyday person know what a DNS request mean? Warning wxyz process is attempting to make a DNS request.... Allow or Deny the answer is huuuh! Please just say that a process is attempting to connect to the Internet, hey Agnitum, don't you think.

    Thanks.

I'm not taking sides on VB but even the major feature of the standalone AV product from Agnitum is that it enhances the traditional anti-virus program because of HIPS. It's not a negative, that's the point - Premptive Threat Protection. Regardless of what AV engine they licensed they would have done the same thing. Just read their product description: http://www.agnitum.com/products/antivirus/features.php

Yes I read it and to me the Virusbuster engine is NOT good. The sooner Agnitum acknowledges this the better. Please Agnitum DUMP Virusbuster and get yourself a better engine. Virusbuster cannot compete with the likes of Kaspersky, Avira, Ikarus, even the Comodo AV engine is better than Virusbuster, at least to me. Dump it.

By saying this I'not bashing Virusbuster but its my conclusion of the effectiveness of the AV.

    Thanks.

Yeah they are bad, have they changed since the last version? Do they even tell you where a process is connecting to by either domain name or IP and the port? Also do they tell you the filepath of the executable trying to connect out, or just "appname" is connecting to some random machine somewhere?

    Thanks.

Is there a way to change the rule behavior to always show ports by their number instead of by name? If I type in a manual rule using the port number it gets displayed by the name in the rule. I could only find an option to change this in the logs.

When you say it's the "everything" beta, I am assuming the AV is not included, right? I don't see any reference to the AV in the screen shot. I assume the AV is still a stand alone? Is the anti-malware still an elective?

It is still elective and there are 3 different programs to choose from . The Suite , The Firewall , and The AntiVirus

This is nice for the technically inclined amongst us, as so many Wilders members fall into that category, but in fairness to Agnitum, they are probably trying to market their product for the vast majority of typical home pc users, who most certainly don't fall into this minority (probably < 3%). Too much info will only serve to confuse the he77 out of people. It's a double edged sword, my friend ;)

Here are two a bit overlapped. The left one is for a network connection. The right a memory injection. The advice and the options - not normally open - are shown open just so you can see what is available.
