If the feature set isn't frozen, and it's not already implemented any chance of suggesting the ability to map logfiles to another location or drive?

Even if there's no GUI option, an .ini edit will do. With all those writes and SSD's gaining momentum, it would be nice to map the logfiles to RamDisk or another drive.

Outpost is the most secretive software security company I have ever met. I'm pretty sure they are taking their cues at the FSB with a spetnaz flavor. :thumbd:

That's possible already. Somebody has discussed how it's done. Here at Wilders I think. If I recall, they mapped the logs to a RAM disk.

A good thing for a security company. Dont you think?

Actually, this is very normal for beta testing. I test for several companies and all have you sign a non-disclosure agreement which does not allow a tester to discuss anything about the testing in public that is not already known generally.

It can be made that way. However, I much more liked the policy that Emsi soft took with a-squared 5. Even for the private beta we were allowed to share screenshots, information etc.

That was me and no it didn't work real well.

Anyhow i have not had Outpost installed for 6 month, and the more i hear about 2010 the more i'm inclined now to just throw my license in the trash.

It seems we should finally be a stone's throw away from the public beta: Outpost Pro 7.0 - Beta 4. Approaching Public Beta

I doubt it. Just my own feelings, but I think something is going on at Agnitum. I just received an e-mail from them letting me know that they are delaying the release of the beta without saying when they will release it. :thumbd:

Agnitum should have had their 2010 products since last year around December; and now they probably will release their 2010 technology in 2011. Agnitum is not keeping pace here so much so that they are going to choose a new nomenclature for their products. Instead of saying for example Outpost Security Suite 2010 now it will be Outpost Security 7. Product development is falling way behind.

At a time when some if not most computer security companies are testing their 2011 products Agnitum is still a year behind.

    Thanks.

Your words certainly give something to think about. I've personally been worried about the firewall lifetime license offers that seem to constantly be prolonged. In fact, I think they've been running the "Hurry up! Limited time offer!" since December - only the pictures of christmas balls have changed to spring flowers.

With all DUE respect , you know little about Agnitum . I have stated this before and will state it again here . Agnitum has shown reckless abandon with some of their software . They have released products WAYYYY before they should have been released and did not show any care whatsoever about how poorly the product worked . They have done this on more than a few occasions . In order for Agnitum to seemingly get it right , it will take them forever to do it . And THEN you have to hope it will work on your system . Some of their firewalls have been nothing short of magnificent ! Other releases have sucked as bad as bad can be . We can only guess what this one will be . But , no need to piss and moan over how long it takes because I am sure if it is released now , it will be crap and most will complain . Give them the time and then , if the product stinks ( 50 50 chance ) do not use it . It will be interesting to see what they have when released . Good luck and have something else as a backup in case this one is a failure as well . Only time will tell

    Well Falkor

Don't you think that such a lack of product quality could be the result of poor resources. To me personally I'm beginning to believe that they are trying to cash in, I hope I'm wrong since I already bought my own lifetime license. Also, I realized that they are still postponing the deadline for their lifetime license. I bought mine in December 2008 and at that particular time Agnitum was saying the deadline was supposed to be January 2009 and now we are in 2010 and they are still promoting it.

To me, their lifetime license is just a marketing ploy to get more cash. Probably, the reason they always have poor quality beta products is because they do not have enough quality staff to work on their products full time. The more I think about it the more I believe that they are cashing in.

When product development for a security company is falling behind while continuously promoting a lifetime license such a fact could only mean one thing: "such a company needs a good infusion of cash, badly." Simply put, Agnitum does not know how to manage its resources nor does it have enough of them to stay competitive. Not even having a 2010 beta version of your own products while other companies are already testing their own alpha or beta version of their 2011 product line is indicative of just that, lack of resources.

    Thanks.

Could it be that too many people are using the free version, cashing in on a good FW, so the company has to try to induce folks to buy the paid version so they can pay their bills and upgrade their product?

You are right but so is CogitoTesting. It also got me mad their Lifetime Licence business.

I made my decision to buy the Licence 2 days before it was suppose to end, in Januay 2009. And now more than a year later the same promotion is still there exept there is no date when the promotion will end. Does that means it is also a "Lifetime promotion"? If so, just give us one price $39.95, that's ito_O

Why are you mad?.Is it because you dont want other people to have the same things you have?.I bought the lifetime licence in 2001 and 9 years later i can still install the latest version.I dont care if other people have it also or even if they paid half the price i did.I bought the software because i liked it at that point in time and expected a few years out of it ,not because i thought id be in some elite group where i had something that some one else didnt.Get a grip..its only software. If you get a few years out of it ,then be grateful. If you expect a lifetime licence to mean that agnitum will still be supplying you when your 85 then i think you and many peeps will be sorely disappointed.

Sounds like they are emulating Microsoft by numbering vice naming versions. Probably a sound business tactic.

As for slow product development -- IMO it's best to get it right, instead of merely getting it out on the street.

Look at it this way. Microsoft has bee doing it this way for years. (Get it out on the street) Windows is probably still one of the most buggiest programs out there, and its a Operation system. The mass's still use it regardless.

IMHO there is no other alternative similar to Windows.
I know, i know.. there are others OS's, but still there are some things that can be done on Windows only like for example: playing games.
If masses go to Linux, probably there will be bugs found also and the malicious attacks will be directed to it.

Yes there is (maybe). Join the ReactOS gang -- they are working on a legal clone of Windows. Great fun. Useful, too. But be sure to image your system disk before helping out. From their site...

    Good to hear that.

Thanks for the link and for the info.
It would be interesting how this would develop. But as you can see it's too early to tell any predictions ( it's in Alpha stage)
Still Windows is mainstream. Hardly that games can be played on anything else that Windows.
Here is list that i fount of supported games.

Hmm.... on other hand when i looked close i see that this is going slow.

    Release history

    Roadmap

    :doubt:

I hope that will seen some final and stable build soon.
