Interesting Avast Article

    The presupposition of thie article is that the Linux version of Avast is at least as capable of detecting and removing Windows malware as is the Windows version. Anyone know if this is true?

    Avast Linux Edition has the same engine (and detection capabilities) as avast 4.8 for Windows.

    You don't need ubuntu to do this, just check out slax and it's security modules also dr.web livecd is awesome alternative.

    There's a lot of recovery live CDs - most of them are Linux-based. AVG is the latest free addition[/url].

    Wrt Avira - if the thing they offer for download is the same what you get w/ v10 Premium version, then this was completely unusable for me, since someone horribly botched Xorg server configuration there, so the only thing I'd get was a black screen and a message from my LCD that it can't handle such refresh rates). Someone at the Avira forums also complained that mouse is not working there. :(
