At least the free version does not use any engine from Sophos, instead the enigine in Preventon Antivirus is Virusbuster.

    Code:

They might not have bothered to change or give proper information. You can even check their OS requirements it says that it is only compatible upto windows XP but it works on Win 7 also Edwin024 has tried to run AV on Win 7:)

Probably they have not updated their website...But still it good to see that they have passed VB100 for Windows 7. But i still believe that VB100 is not the updated benchmark to trust a AV solution. They are still based on On Demand Scanning Tech. for In the Wild Viruses..Whereas now a days an AV should have HIPS and Other technology to stop nasty viruses before getting or executing in the system.

Noticed there's a new version available today (4.1.65 free) on Softpedia, in case
    anyone's interested.

Strange thing happened though, went to Preventon's website(to look for more
info etc), tried to return to their homepage, and was re-directed to ptlmarketing, which is linked to Preventon. Checked ptlmarketing with Siteadvisor(not much) and then WOT and it gives a dodgy rating(attached).
Really didn't like the unwanted re-direction.Suspicious?

Yes, thanks. I was just looking at products etc and then selected part on LH
side with info about company etc, and I think it happened when I then returned
to homepage via option top left of page if I'm not mistaken.

I received an email from Prevention a few weeks ago and they stated the free version uses VirusBuster. They did not specify, but it seemed they insinuated the paid version may use a different engine? Maybe just the paid version uses sophos?

Okay, but you know virusbuster engine is also good enough and used by many AV's like a-squared and PC-Tools....But PC Tools modified/formulated the core engine according to their need..

Thanks, AvinashR, good idea. This really shouldn't be happening.

A-Squared uses the Ikarus engine not Virusbuster.

I have tested it quite way back. It performed good...

But failed to block TDSS rootkits.
