thx. just wut i needed, but is it possible to enter enter a url "www.example.com" instead of a IP address "72.0.121.123" range?

 

Before, I had PeerGuardian 2 and it worked fine.

After I reinstalled Windows, I tried PeerBlock and it couldn't work on my system (XP Pro 32-bit).

I uninstaled it and installed PG2 again, but I can't update the blocklists any more. Now my PG blocks only 4 IPs I entered manually. What could be the reason?

 

No, I'm afraid not. However, you can look up the IP address of whatever website you want to block and enter it manually.

 

I'm very surprised it wouldn't work. Let me ask, how long ago was this reinstall? Are you getting your lists from iBlocklist? You may want to try their forum, I'm afraid I don't have the knowledge to figure out what would cause that outside of blocklist URL issues.

When it comes to PeerGuardian 2, when I click on 'Check updates' I get:

"Some lists were not found. For your best protection, you should perform an update."

I prefer protowall or beethink ip blocker, just because they work as NDIS IM drivers, the same way that look n stop does. Protowall does not support 64 bit Windows. Beethink ip blocker supports 64 bit Windows 7 and runs pretty fast, as well as it supports Windows service.

 

Personally I wouldn't use the the Sourecforge Lists, they are at least a few years out of date and I don't think anyone plans on updating those lists ever again.

If you are still using those sourceforge lists, it's time to switch to using lists that still exist and get updated regularly, hopefully that will fix your problem..

For direct acces to the blocklists, visit Bluetack.co.uk / Blocklistpro.com, as this is where the main lists for Protowall, Peerguardian and Peerblock originate, and where the original source lists for those sourceforge lists came from.

You can download the IP Blocklists for free directly from Bluetack or manually from Blocklistpro, they are also mirrored on iblocklist.com.

Blockpost - It may not be as light as others but after all these years I still prefer Blockpost out of any IP Blocker. Although Blockpost in Outpost 4 was the best, the latest Outpost version (although lacking most features of the old version) is still a very good IP blocker.

Also take a look at using a Hosts file if you don't already. using a customised Hosts file to complement your IP Blocker can be very effective combination.

If you find the Hosts file useful for blocking, grab a copy of the BISS Hosts Switch and you can add domains on the fly without needing to open your hosts file each time you want to add something new.

With Blockpost you can enter a domain name and it will do a dns lookup to grab all the IP's that are set to that domain, which saves you having to look up every IP individually.. Often you won't always find them all so easily by yourself either.

Also take a look at Admuncher. It's very light. You can block domains and IP's (can't import blocklists though, probably not a good idea anyway) and virtually anything else that needs to be blocked on a webpage can be filtered by Admuncher.
