I received today a mail from a ~Email address removed~ stating that in 2 weeks my ESET account expires (a legit email I suppose, with the actual ESET username). When I check the ABOUT option of the program itself it states Expiry Date 4 months from now on.

Which of this contradictory dates are to be taken into account, I wonder. If anyone has any ideea, please share.

Delete the email. It's bogus. ESET does not notify licensed users in this manner.

OK, I suspected that much but for Pete's sake, how did the scammer knew my EAV- code EXACTLY to the last digit ? I'm cautious with all these phishings, I don't share the computer. That bothers me, actually.

Unless you bought from a reseller, I have no idea how they would know your details.

    It would bother me too.

Nope, I bought the product on-line. Since I'm 100% it's not human error (like opening wacky mails or falling for phishing pages) I'm at a loss. Needless to say that for almost 2 years I trusted the security of my computer with NOD. :cautious:

Kindly give ESET time to respond to this post.

One thing for sure, never respond to an email such as that one.

I didn't open a case with ESET Customer Service, I thought the matter to be too trivial. Of course I don't answer these sort of mails (there's a long list of nigerian bankers that I have to take care of, firstly). I was only concern about that personal info that probably shouldn't be known by someone else and I was hoping to figure out how it became known to third parties.

Thanks for your time and have a great weekend.

I'd suggest contacting the distributor / reseller you purchased your license from. ESET does not notify customers by email when their license is due as they are informed in advance by the program itself. However, some distributors may send out notification emails.

My reseller emailed me almost every day the last 2 weeks before it expired. If someone has your email address and serial number it is most likely a legitimate email.

As I said, I used the website of ESET to buy it, I paid by credit card I downloaded the software as instructed, installed it and that's all. No other middleman that I'm aware of.

    My initial thoughts exactly.

BTW, I wonder if anyone know if eset-email.com is a legit domain belonging to ESET ? Yahoo says it's DomainKeys verified and it's not a spoofed mail.

It means that domain appears to belong to ESET's U.S. office.

    Hello,

I checked with ESET, LLC's marketing department and found out that they are testing sending out e-mails to licensed users about two weeks before their license expires.

The reason you received a message so far in advance of your license expiring is that in September, 2008 a support engineer manually adjusted the expiration date of your software license in one database and the change was not synchronized with another database for some reason.

In any case, four months is the correct time for your license, and you can ignore the email.

    Regards,

    Aryeh Goretsky
