Real-time means competing with many paid and free products. On-demand means an addition to all products.

I could see an additional paid product utilising some real-time feature though, but hopefully they always update an on-demand version.

If they decide to use realtime. I wouldn't mind the on demand be changed to free and pay for realtime like malwarebytes does. :D

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

The message appears when Hitman Pro detects that its authenticode certificate no longer matches the binary code. This means that the file isn't original and some bytes have changed. (what also could be is that your certificate store is malfunctioning but that is not likely).

You can check for yourself by right clicking on the HitmanPro35.exe and choose Properties from the context menu. Then choose the Digital Signature tab. It should state something about an invalid signature.

Anyway, you can resolve it by clicking on the Resolve Now link. This will download the a fresh original version of Hitman Pro from our site. The message should disappear. If not, please PM me.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

    Hi erikloman,

I had dragged HitMan Pro executable from my phisical PC and dropped to my Virtual Machine with XP Mode, then I installed it.

In error I had also run the installer instead of the HitMan Pro shortcut on the desktop (I easily get distracted)

However I uninstalled HitMan Pro from my Virtual Machine with XP Mode, I downloaded another fresh copy and I installed it.

    Issue fixed :)

    Thank you

P.S I hope Avira will be back among the antivirus included in your gem of software;)

Avira won't be used for the cloud scanning according to erikloman a few posts earlier. He said they are adding another big vendor soon. Which I hope are 1 of these:

Kaspersky, Symantec, Microsoft, Sunbelt, or Sophos.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

Thx for this interesting tool! Some feedback

When I ran the default scan on XPSP3 for the first time, it went to 99 % classifying and sorta froze there. It uploaded one file a Java Runtime installer in my documents folder for cloud scan, but then the cloud scan kept going for like 5 minutes without completing so I cancelled it. When I run the default scan again, no files are uploaded and Hitman goes to 100 % and completes with no traces identified.

I also tryed EWS scan. First time, it found one suspicious item: some file called TMP0000001C4CB39377EF136CE8 in C:\Windows\Temp folder. Hitman said it could be benign or malicious, and is hidden probably by a rootkit. When I run EWS scan for second time, this file is no longer detected.

    Any reason to worry?

Go to the folder location, and see which files are there. You can always upload the temp files, if any are there, with say www.virustotal.com to check for another opinion.

Otherwise download Ccleaner portable, and remove all your internet history, temp files, and run a scan again. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds

I'm guessing it was a temp file which has since been (automatically) deleted. Prevx is also strong against rootkits, so you can download the free version (detection only) and give your system a scan.

In a big part true, thank you:)

So, Cloud or not Cloud, I would still see back Avira even if on a different level.

As for the rest:"De gustibus non disputandum est" ;)

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

The temp file Hitman detects was not there in Temp folder, it's not visible. So couldn't upload to VT. Hitman did say the file could be hidden by a rootkit in the EWS scan. Maybe it was just some temp file. From my Anti-Virus maybe. PrevxCSI scan says all clean with max heuristics :)

There's a rogue out right now I've seen in a few machines that messes up the exe file association in the registry when removing the rogue from the machine. Would be nice to add the option of fixing that to hitman pro. I have had to download the registry tweak in another profile on the computer then copy it to the affected profile to fix that issue.

Hitman Pro build 92 (current) repairs the EXE file association when Hitman Pro deletes the associated malware.

Though, Hitman Pro doesn't repair the association when the malware was removed by another product.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

Build 91 and 92 were mostly about TDL3 rootkit. The TDL3 doesn't work on x64 so it did not make sense to include x64 in the release cycle.

Build 93 (both x86 and x64) will be released early next week. Some preliminary release notes:
    • Fixed a huge (silly) memory leak reducing memory consumption by 20-40MB
    • Replaced WinInet by WinHttp network stack for internet communication. This allows more proxy options and also allows Hitman Pro to run under different accounts like SYSTEM. This is particularly useful in corporate situations.
    • Added hyperlink to the finish page allowing the log to be exported.
    • Added XSLT stylesheet to the XML log file allowing the XML file to be pretty formatted as HTML.
    • Added /ews command line switch.
    • Added /noupload command line switch.
    • ...

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

I ran hitman pro build 92 on a machine infected with ave.exe and it removed it so I rebooted. When I logged in under the infected profile I could not run any exe file it didn't restore the exe file association.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

I expected this reply as we also ran into this situation a few times :cautious:

Hitman Pro currently only scans and repairs registry hives that are currently loaded in the operating system.

This is due to that registry hives are unloaded when a user logs off. If you run Hitman Pro under a different profile and you keep the infected profile logged on, then the registry of the infected profile will also be scanned and repaired.

So if you are going to clean a system, keep the infected profile alive by performing a fast user switch (I know that fast user switching is not common practice in corporate environments though).

In one of the next build we will dynamically load the registry hives of each profile. A checkbox under Settings will enable/disable this feature.

Finally, this is not a limitation of only Hitman Pro as we found out that most AVs lack the ability to clean unloaded registry hives, including MBAM.

Same here ;) That's why I don't want real-time monitoring of HMP just keep it as is On-Demand or on Boot up which I disable!

    TH

Edit: Also I hope it's not Trend Micro as they didn't do any good on the latest AV-Comparatives! :thumbd:
