Can anyone tell me what I did now?

"Windows can not start the Windows Firewal/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Service"

I can not find this, though at one time I used Win FW while looking for another FW.

Did you recently install/uninstall any programs?

Hello. Yes I've recently uninstalled Rising FW free, as it suddenly for no apparent reason started to block me from internet. RFW came out cleanly enough as far as I can tell, but... I also uninstalled Rising Free AV as it has not connected to update site in months. Used Revo on both, but RAV left so much trash I deployed my Registery Hunter/Killers, causing much angst and several rollbacks. Pretty sure I did not hose a Win XP service, but at this point I'm not Completely sure, as this particular service does not appear.

edit- truth is I have the service listed in Anvir task mgr, only it refuses to start: Dependency or Service group failed to start- Network Connections ICS (svchost.exe). svchost must be working though, since I am hereo_O?

Good morning reedz856. Thank you for the link. I stepped through the methods detailed, stopping short of reinstalling XPSP2 as that is not an option at this time. Unfortunately to no avail- err1068: Dependency service or group failed to start. I can tell you that the following services (dependencies) show to be running Auto at Start... Security Center, Windows Management Instrumentation, WMI Driver Extensions, RPC. The link you provided links also to kb/892199, and I only this moment realized I haven't been running Event Logging and have rectified. This might prove of use, though the kb mentions a service called SharedAccess which I have not yet found. Also SP2 is one of the first updates I did long ago with no ill effect.
Possibly related, I lately have to Start>Run to open dlls to get the restoration window sometimes, no apparent pattern leading to this.
Also, Rising FW and AV services are still listed, only blanked out <File missed>. While I continue to muck up my system would you consider commenting on these options?
1: Would reinstalling Rising possibly replace whatever it took, would it be worth the trouble or just asking for more?
2: It's getting kind of chilly out here in the internets, what with me being buck naked and such, I've been giving Online Armor Free a look. Can I possibly make things worse by trying on another FW at this juncture?
Anyhow, I really appreciate your attempt to assist in resolving my dilemma, you've given me more possibilities to peruse.
    Best Regards_ S.H.

I have been strongly advised against SP3 with my AMD HP. I understand the combination has turned more stable systems than mine into paperweights. Nice thought though.
