Complete newbie. backup question

Hello everyone.

I just downloaded paragon backup and recovery today, and there's quite a lot of things to know, but i managed to create a full backup of the entire HDD following the wizard, and i have created the restore disk

But what happens the next time i do this, would i have the option of a incremental or differential backup or another full backup,

Or do you have these options if you do your backups on a scheduale..

 

If you already have a full backup to append it to, you can use the Diffrential Backup Wizard to do a differential manually.

I have just been reading about differential and incremental backups, but they tend to confuse me sometimes.

Say i have 3 differential backups for the one full backup archive, why would i want to create an incremental backup as the next backup..

first differential backup
second differential backup
third differential backup
forth incremental backup

I am just trying to understand how this all works

 

Hi,

Partition/Disk backups will be Differential.

File backups will be incremental.

It is a trade off between time , space and functionality as to which is best.

Differentials have the advantage of only needing one differential and the base to restore.

That means you can delete the intervening Differentials if you need the space, or in the extremely unlikely event one is corrupted, it is not a disaster.

File backups typically take a lot less space.

How long do you normally keep your first full computer backup for, before creating a new one, OR would you just keep deleting any old differential backups you have.

I know its disk space that is an issue, but my situation is i have an external HDD (320gb) with one full computer backup and 1 differential on it at present.

I am just not sure when or if you have to create another full backup at some point..
