You know even the tightest of linux kernels get holes, far less than others but they surely do and also get hacked by determined folks when the need arises so it would be utopia not to expect any holes, all we want is fast patch up.

It might be better to link to the download page rather than to the executable itself:

I am still too cautious to update my main work station but curious enough to upgrade another box. Honestly I am impressed by the speed as it does feel faster than normal. Usually when I read these comments, my experience is that in real life you don't notice but this one seems different.
I have tested it much yet but did not notice some of the "drastic changes" that annoy some of the long-term users. For me off hand it seemed perfectly fine.

Don't worry about any issues, been running Opera 10.5 since alpha stages as my main browser and email client and it has yet to let me down.

You are right about the speed differences, also bear in mind, speed is site specific, I have both Chrome and Opera on my i7 PC and overall its Opera that wins, Chrome is blazing fast on some sites, specifically Google ones (no surprises there), but falter on others. Also Chrome is not a suite, nor does it have the superior interface of Opera but its a very good alternative for me, I don't need any others.

I have been using Opera since V 7 or so and always liked it. I am just sceptical sometimes when I read these speed comparisons as most of it seems to happen in a universe where as a human we can hardly notice. I was just surprised to feel a difference when playing with it.
Of course you are right, linuxforall, that your mileage will vary from site to site but I was comparing "my usual sites".

Yep apart from Google sites, even my now ancient Opera 10.10 is mighty fast.

I´ve checked it out, and it really is quite fast, very nicely done. :thumb: But I think it´s quite strange that only recently the browser makers have started to focus on how to process javascript more quickly, this has always been one of the biggest annoyances for me.

But anyway, Opera has been my main browser for about 2 years now, mainly because of the fast/smooth rendering, the "fit to width" feature and the "caching system" which enables to instantly navigate back/forward. Can´t believe that IE still hasn´t added these features. o_O

The only thing that´s so frustrating to me about Opera is the lack of some important stuff, like for example a Plugins system, a better Ad Blocker, a better Download Manager, and the "Super Drag&Drop" feature (most important!). Not to forget about some other perhaps small, but oh so handy things found in Maxthon: being able to search from the address bar, assigning a URL Alias without having to bookmark a page, closing tabs by double clicking, ability to close all tabs on the left/right.

Yeah, a better adblocker wouldn't go amiss! ;)

Try Proxomitron, the best free adblocker and more.
You can use any download manager with oGet
Ctrl + Drag&Drop to open the link in a new tab, Ctrl + Shift + Drag&Drop to open it in the background.
    Opera 10.5 has that feature.
Opera has that feature. I prefer middle click.

As far as an ad blocker, what's wrong with a Hosts file? I merge four of them with Hostsman and hardly ever see an ad.

Opera doesn't open bookmarks in new tabs without closing the whole list after the middle-click.

I personally more frequently use speed dial than bookmarks. Even with bookmarks I find it easier using ctrl+T then clicking the bookmark. Just something I had to adapt to when switching over. Now I just ctrl+T and click bookmark/speed dial button.

Try Ctrl + B (you can change the hotkey, of course).

What does anyone think of this from FavBrowser?

I have only had Opera 10.50 crash momentarily once. I had Opera & K-Meleon on the task bar & Opera went into 'Not Responding' mode for a few seconds & the next thing I know it changed its position on the task bar (I'd originally opened it first). I can't remember what page it was in when this happened.

I agree that it was rushed out, and a lot of it did have to do with that silly ballot screen. I've not heard of a bunch of crashing from friends that use it, just that it's a bit buggy and that they can't stand the new interface.

Hours of surfing with heavy multi media laden pages and not a single crash here with Opera 10.5, the only glitch is that the bookmarks sometimes don't open when clicked.

No crashing here either on Win 7, although I have not logged as many hours as some yet. Seems very smooth to me, and I do like the new interface.

I like the new interface, well, it's OK. Opera 10 did the same thing (momentary crashing) often until I uninstalled my old Yahoo! messenger as its plug-in was the culprit. After that it was fine. I'm quite pleased with 10.50 (it finally works properly in You Tube!) & I hope that was a minor glitch I had earlier. Everything seems fine now. It wasn't a proper crash anyway & I probably wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't had K-Meleon running as well.

I haven't noticed anything like that. However I have the Menu Bar hidden (chrome style) & have a custom bookmark button on the GUI (inbetween Wand/key & the URL bar). It might make some difference.

:thumb: x 10 for the link.

Using Chrome on a news site today and it kept crashing, wouldn't open a few multimedia pages. Whereas Opera worked. I've had the same thing, Opera couldn't open, Chrome did. I guess it's hit and miss with some websites. Alternating between two of the quickest browsers does the trick.

You are welcome, this is exactly what I am doing currently, enjoying two of the quickest and slickest browsers out there.
