I am wondering if I have a unique problem with WormGuard v3.1 or if others experienced this.
I use WinXP Pro. and when I install WG I can no longer use Help and Support on the Start menu.
I also can not double click a mpg or avi and have it open Windows Media Player.
I get an error stating this is not a valid Win32 application.
It happens immediately after clicking install from the WG program.
Once the problem happens I can't repair it.
    Uninstalling WG doesn't work.

I have read that other people use it on WinXP with no problems.
I'm wondering if there is some setting in Windows I can change to make WG work for me?

    Thanks

    Hi Wade,

For some unknown reason, WG v3 works on XP for one, and doesn't for (many) others. There's no "trick" as far as I know of the circumvent problems encountered.

Guess you (and other XP users for that matter) have no option but waiting for the release from WormGuard v4

    regards.

     Hello  FarCry  ,

I have tried WG 3 with XP ( using the compatibility mode ) and it did not work .Yesterday I tried TDS 3 ( XP and compatibility mode again )  and I had no problem , I am testing TDS 3 and everything  is fine.
Here in WILDERS/DiamondCS Forum  I have read  that , in my case , probably "WormGuard" was in conflict with my AV(NAV2002) , others , with others AVs , are using WG&XP(with or without compatibility mode ).
Perhaps , like me you will have to wait for the version 4 .

                       Regards ,

P.S. : I have 3 more ATs  in my computer, but  TDS3 is really impressive .

    Hi sflag,

Are you perhaps referring to this thread:
    http://www.security-pro.co.uk/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=dcstds;action=display;num=1013437821

    I wrote there:

If you were referring to that thread: I was talking about NIS (earlier version like NIS 1.0) and not NAV.

My expectation that this issue will be solved with WormGuard 4.0 is based on what Wayne wrote:

I hope this might help to clarify this.

     Hello  FanJ  ,
Only now I have  understood your first thread (about NIS).I am using "NIS2002" but I was thinking that it was only its AV component  the cause of the incompatibility(NAV2002).
I presume that the conflict WG X NIS(early versions)  persists also with the last version of NIS .
Thank you for the explanation , regards

    FarCry,

I have the same "problem" on my XP machine. I just put up with it and Pinned "Hlpctr.exe" to the Start Menu and renamed it "Help and Support". For the .mp3's I just right click and "Open". Wormguard works to well to *not* use it :)

    Ron_P;

Thank you, I have been wondering about this problem since July 2001.
You're the first person that has posted that you have the same problem.
I thought I was the only one that had that problem.

I really would like to find out what causes it.
WormGuard seems to delete files or something.

    Thanks

To be honest, I wasn't sure *WHAT* caused it :) I thought it may have been the registry cleaners that I use - Easy Cleaner is known to break "Help and Support" but they have a reg file to fix it...it didn't work. I just can't remember *when* I installed WG and just thought it was the reg cleaners. If you didn't clean the reg and yours broke after WG...good enough for me :) I don't find it that big of a deal for me, I launch all my music from the player and pinning H&S to the Start Menu works fine.

Ron_P & FarCry, I also have XP Pro and the same problem of "This is not a valid win32 app." SO I also right click and choose Open with ect. I found it will also block the .exe of some games and the one I know of personally is Heavy Gear 2 from Activision. After installing Wormguard the game will not launch online nor will some parts of the game launch (Instant Action) ect. And I have now installed Wormguard on another XP Pro box for a friend and they have Heavy Gear 1 and it worked fine for awhile then all of a sudden samething as HG2. I am not sure how to fix this bug but maybe if the file name was placed in the "Allowed List Editor" it may work? Just thinking :) Thanks, JAS

I have tested WormGuard with my system, specifically to see if WG was the culprit.
I had done a format and a clean install.
I made sure everything was working and then I installed WG and it caused problems.
I messed with it every way you can imagine and nothing repaired the problems.
I uninstalled WG and that didn’t work either.

I used the right click thing for awhile also.
I would browse to PCHEALTH/HELPCTR/Binaries/HelpCtr.exe when I needed Help.

I don’t have it installed now.
I’m waiting for v4.0 to be released.
