I know that ClamV isn't so popular compare to other AV because it lacks of some features (realtime protection, web shield...etc). Will You use ClamAV if ClamAV has more features?
OMG! And what next? Will you use Avast 5 Free if it has full disc virtualisation? Will you use KAV if it hasn't got real-time protection? Or maybe will you use Avira if it has "make a coffee" function ? BTW. my answer is no
Would I, yes. Will I, probably not (still 2 years left on current AV), and my server scans incoming mail with the Clam. ClamAV, though much maligned here, does have some amazing response times due to it's open source nature. I see often 10 updates per day (vs. 1 or 2 per day for my current paid AV). Detection rates however still remain mediocre at best when compared to the "big boys". Ratings at Shadowserver are not bad (IF you put credence in their methodology). MHO: For those with a relatively low risk profile, the Clam should be adequate.
Do you mean ClamWin (which is based on ClamAV engine, but stopped to support Windows http://www.clamav.net/download/packages/packages-win32/ ) maybe? Well, I doubt I shall use it. As far as I know ClamWin has not a high detection rate and ClamWin installer comes with ask toolbar built in. I do not like "security software houses" which include adware and privacy risks in their programs. It is a contraddiction in terms
Ditto. Damn shame. What they're stating: A poll at their site where users greet the news with not much enthusiasm: http://www.clamwin.com/content/view/214/1/
No way. Mostly because the detection rates haven't been good in the past. They have a long way to go considering some of the currently available free alternatives.
It's worse than even AVG with detection rates. There are several faaaaaar superior free alternatives....Avast, AntiVir..and my fave...MSE. I have a lot of *nix router distros out there for clients, some of them running some UTM features, and some of those rely on ClamAV for their http/mail scanner protection on the freebie base versions. I think I've seen Clam stop 1 virus..the rest usually get stopped at the computer..so it shows a ton make it past Clam. It can't find its way out of a paper bag.
may be as second one on linux but not as primary one not recommend for window at all get avira avast or bitdefender why because source:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clam_AntiVirus ClamAV is occasionally included in comparative tests against other antivirus products: Virus.gr (2009)[24] ClamWin 0.95.2 ranked 43rd (out of 55) AV-Test (200[25] On-demand: very poor False positives: poor On-access: poor Response time: very good Rootkits: very poor but after bought by Snort hope for the best in future
@ all Please let us not forget that ClamAV was not design to be running on Windows, only on Linux. Even in that respect in was design primarily to scan e-mails on Linux. Consequently, the fact that ClamAV does so poorly on Windows does not surprise me at all. Thanks.
To everybody who voted yes. Immunet placed ClamAV into their Cloud infrastructure, so now, you have new features, and real time protection
