SSM & Drive Snapshot

Hi all,

I am having difficulty getting Drive Snapshot's shadow drivers to load using System Safety Monitor.

Drive Snapshot loads Shadow drivers SNAPSHOD0 through to SNAPSHOD30 as far as i can tell, however SSM is not prompting for the driver change.

I googled and came across this thread over at the Online Armor forums, yet I have not found a solution other than disabling SSM's Driver protection.

Is anyone using these pair successfully?

I have the same problem as you. DS driver apparently failed to load if SSM protection is on. The only workaround I've found is to simply retry the backup procedure (without closing DriveSnapshot) after you get the error message that says that driver has failed to load. Then it works.

 

This is true, but a pain in the @$$.
I like to automate the tasks through windows task scheduler, however it would fail upon most tasks when run

Is there any way of using wild-cards on SNAPSHOD* driver?

 

As far as I know there is no way of using wild-cards on SNAPSHOD* driver, this is a limitation of SSM

I know that Paranoid2000 used to use both SSM & Drive Snapshot and would imagine he ran both in harmony.

The problem here is that the wealth of knowledge from SSM's forum has now disappeared!

 

Just to let you know that using batch files actually bypasses the driver problem:

There is an initial error, however it continues as expected.

 

Warning : if the driver is not loaded, the image can still take place but the result might be/will be corrupt (not bootable). Why not use VSS mode ?

The images restore perfectly & yes, vss is a fix, however, mounting the images as a drive letter causes the same driver error & would appear unavoidable. Due to the fact that I seldom view images in this way, I temporarily disable the driver protection.

Yes, mounting the drive activates the driver and most crashes (BSOD) I had with snapshot occurred at that stage.

Just a question : can you exclude files/folders from SSM protections, as it's generally possible with antivirus/spyware software ?

I use the:

...option, which greatly reduces unnecessary pop-ups. I need hips to monitor behaviour of new software & find that SSM fits the bill better than any other.

 

Did you try Macrium Reflect. It's principe is quite similar to snapshot, it's *very* fast, especially in diff./incr mode.
