Thankful we are although I'm not sure I will need it as there's always the unbeatable MyDefrag-v4.2.8

O&O does boot defrag, My Defrag is yet to implement that.

I think the author of MyDefrag recommends PageDefrag from Microsoft Sysinternals (freeware) for boot-time defrags (it defrags more than just the pagefile).

Personally I like to run both of them as well as ChkDsk with ScanDefrag 5.6 (try server 2 for download). It was designed to work with JkDefragCmd, but I made an AutoHotkey script that launches MyDefrag in its place (available here for now - the idea is to make an exe file named JkDefragCmd.exe that launches the desired MyDefrag script and waits for it to finish, and to use it to replace the actual JkDefragCmd.exe in ScanDefrag program folder).

That said, this thread is about O&O Defrag so kudos to them for offering v11 for free and while I don't have much experience with it myself, I know it has a good reputation.

PageDefrag doesn't work for Vista or Windows 7 users.

Page Defrag doesn't do system files, it does do registry hives and page file, also it doesn't work for x64. Only freeware defrag that does boot time system file defrag is Ultimate Defrag.

I got it after couple of hours, maybe they are swamped with the offer currently.

I don't believe the free version (1.72) does boot defrag.

O!O 11 Pro edition always has offline defrag and it has done so since version 8.

I think you mean Ultra Defrag?

However, Puran Defrag is free for personal use and has a comprehensive boot-time module. There's also free versions of Paragon Total Defrag that defrags system files.

There are some special system files (USN Journal, etc.) that can only be defragged with the commercial version of Ultimate Defrag 2008 afaik.

Back to MyDefrag/PageDefrag - between the two of them I think they defrag pretty much everything except $USN Journal and $LogFile. Personally I hesitate to use Puran or Ultimate Defrag 2008 boot-time modules with MyDefrag because I fear they may defrag too much causing overlap with MyDefrag and throwing off MyDefrag's optimization algorithm.

You said that "Only freeware defrag that does boot time system file defrag is Ultimate Defrag" . I pointed out that the free version of Ultimate Defrag doesn't have a working boot (offline) defrag feature.

Maybe you meant Ultra Defrag as pajenn mentioned.

I tried to install it under Windows 7 Professional and it stopped part way through and said it would not run on this operating system.

I've heard this program is painfully slow, any truth to that?

It may be free but it's also a lure for Win 7 users, because only v12 works on it.

Depending on size of your disk, the %age of it occupied and the method of defgrag selected, it can be slow if you select the most detailed option to defrag but then most other defraggers would be on the same level then.

I tried it and it wasn't as slow as some people made it out to be. The price is right so I really don't have any complaints so far.:thumb:
