I just purchased a full version of Avira, but now I need a firewall to compliment it. Can anyone tell me what is best to combine with this AV, preferably something light on resources and easy for a beginner in firewall rules to use. My operating system is windows 7 64-bit home premium with blackviper's supertweaks

    Thanks

I love Online Armor and see that hayc59 recommended it. I don't think that they have a 64 bit version quite yet though, so you may want to look at other vendors or wait until Online Armor has a 64 bit version.

Here are my 2 cents ...
    Zonealarm, PCtools firewall.
Comodo is good but might be a little noisy for begginers.

    Outpost, Zonealarm, Comodo, PcTools Firewall

All good choices for the home users, even if the "experts" may disagree.

kjdemuth is right about COMODO being noisy but it actually taught me alot about security and that can't be a bad thing. Once you learn what it's doing it's hard to use anything else.

I suggest PCtools Firewall Pro :)

Win 7 firewall is good enough for protection but if you still insist on installing a firewall then I would suggest PC Tools Firewall:)

    hmm - easy...

Windows Firewall aint nice for you?
It works with the windows build in WFP (Windows Filtering Platform)
and offer elemental knowledge how that works.
PCtools 6 is easy - and light weight - and freeware - and works also with WFP.
Windows 7 Firewall Control - Freeware for a beginning - also for WFP.

If you want more then i recommend Online Armor or Outpost.
But "more" does not only mean "more options" - you have to learn a lot
more of options and messages and what's its meaning - no simple yes/no
button like the others. luckily those two offers a feedback into the web
to the knowledge of other users to make you the decisions easier

Since you use 64 bit your options are limited. I personally have been happily in love with Outpost firewall.
