be careful with avast 5 turning off

With mine all I had to do was start or rather maybe restart the scanners as Avast itself was there, just sort like I had turned of the shields? Seemed fine afterwards and ok on the next reboot as well.

The only problem I had with 5.0 was it would bog my internet speed...

 

I tried Avast 5 again. Worked fine for a few days and today disables itself at boot up and starts two installers every time I reboot. It would not let me turn it back on so that I could run a manual update. I'm done with this version as I am tired of reinstalling. The computer otherwise runs perfectly and was a fresh install a few weeks ago. No way it is infected.

 

okay well this system anyway is going back to nis2010. i am simply fed up on this desktop. it has turned off again on me today i came home and all shields are off. driving me crazy now. i fixed the other system but on this one desktop i have no more ideas. avast has given me no advice other than it has to be something else causing it or to reinstall it. i have reinstalled it almost a dozen times. and this is with a fresh win7 install with NOTHING else on it at all no programs etc. avast was the first thing i installed even before and driver updates. i have reinstalled win7 and also restored and nothing helps avast is simply just turned off when i get home after maybe 6 hours. and the computer is sleeping most of that time.

dont get me wrong i love avast 5 and will use it on the rest of my systems but im at a loss with this one

 

I experienced this problem as well, I no longer use the program. As far as the Alwil forums, you are exactly right. I have seen a few Avast users lately on the COMODO forum asking for advice because Alwil doesn't seem to care.

 

Guys, we have just identified a compatibility issue with Webroot SpySweeper that could lead to this (avast service stopping on its own). Do you happen to have this software installed on your PC?

No I don't use Webroot. I use Superantispyware real time.

 

It was XP 32-bit sp3, no other software installed. Only Avast 5 running.

nope no web root here. just so you know vlk this system has .396 as well and i NEVER had this issue. for whatever reason it has only shown up since the update to 418. actually today i found my old 396 installer and used that and all is fine. i just turned off program updates..
