Hi, I have had the Backup and Recovery 10 Suite since last fall. I have tried to save disk images to my 320 GB USB hard drive (H:\) using - over time - two modes available in your suite: 1) Using the System Backup 10 program; and 2) Using the scheduled backup in the main program interface. In either case, I back up images of two drives at one time: the 160 GB capacity, NTFS C:\ drive; and the 80 GB secondary drive which has two partitions, NTFS D:\ partition of 45 GB capacity; and FAT 32 E:\ partition of 30 GB capacity (where I store my documents and some downloads).

In the case of the System Backup program, I am given no choice about where to store the disk system image on the external hard drive. The program automatically created a folder, H:\DBHStorage for the images.

In the case of using the main program interface, setting up the scheduled backup allowed me to set up a destination folder: H:\All Drives for the images.

Can anyone here tell me which of the above two ways of backing up my system is preferable (if either one) for my purposes? Other than being able to specify a target folder using the main program interface, what is the difference?

    Thanks for any help!

    Hello Bbriley,

Both methods could specify the location and targets of backup. As you already can tell, the Backup & Recovery Suite is more advanced and flexible. But with System Backup 2010, if you right-click the system tray icon, Show Console, and navigate the different hyper-links, you can specify which partitions to backup and the location.

    Hi "Tommy,"

Thank you for the reply. I decided to go through the options in the System Backup console. Try as I might, however, I could only find a way to set the frequency of the backup (daily, weekly, monthly) and the destination drive (my external drive), but I couldn't set a folder in that drive unless I actually started the backup process right away) - it continually starts to save the archive in H:\DBHStorage. I will try that backup weekly for a month, then repeat the process in the main program for the next month after that (I save a maximum of two full system archives). The process in the main program (not in System Backup) allows more flexible backup options for location and scheduling.
