Dr-web vs NOD32

    Which one is better in terms of detection and overall?

    as in looking at all the components/criteria that make up an AV. i.e heuristics/disinfection/detection rates and how powerful the AV is!

    A matter of taste. I presume you have been reading the specs on the DrWeb website. If so:

    a) heuristics are incredibly strong - that strong it does cause false positives quite a lot. Personally, I like that; provides the possibility to examine each and every flag. For those wanting an "out of the box" app, it could work the other way around: taking action upon every flag without examination could cause havoc.

    b) disinfection is superb - various options to handle these (renaming, stalling, deleting, etc.). Scanning Archives (not talking compressed files like .zip, .rar etc) is a very usefull feature (although not everyone will agree on that).

    c) the scanning engine is very powerfull, small footprint as well.

    d) updates at least once a day - quite often more than once a day.

    In short: although performing a full system scan isn't by far as fast as NOD32, DrWeb is IMHO a very strong AV - but not for the faint-hearted.

    Just a short impression ;)

    By far Better Trojan/Backdoor detection

    Great integration with ADinf32

    Better value (cheaper)

    So dr-web is basically a lot more powerful, but isn't as user-friendly?
    but the thing is, how come NOD32 has gotten like 18 or so Vbulletin 100% detection's while Dr-Web has only gotten like 3 or 4?

    So you are saying Dr-Web can get rid of virii/trojans/malware more effectively and efficiently than NOD32 can?

    Yo fatpizzaman, has anyone brought up compatibility and norton?
    You may want to steer clear of norton as it never wanted to play nice with any software. Just make sure you keep the receipt is all I'm saying if you decide to try norton!

    It's more powerfull in some fields. User-friendly? It's not that hard to figure it out!

    DrWeb32 earned 9 VB 100% awards.

    It is hard to say which program is better. Both are high class antivirus scanners. I suggest DrWeb only to more experienced users as of more false positives (due to strong heuristics) and "a more difficult usage" compared to other av programs.

    DrWeb and NOD32 are both much better options than NAV for various reasons.

    Where does KAV rank amongst these AV?
    I mean KAV seemed to do exceptionally well in latest av-test results getting nearly 100% in every criteria. Do you STILL believe that Dr-web and NOD32 are better?

    btw.. technodrome.. what virus scanner and AT's do you use?

    Hi pizzaguy, I'll put my 2 cents in. KAV has an excellent history of catching most anything you can throw at it. It does better at catching Trojans than most anti trojan programs. Some don't see that as a plus, I do.
    I have never used DrWeb so I can not speak on it. I have a Paid copy of NOD32, but I am not using it presently. NOD32 is probably the best pure virus catcher around, I guess. Like I said, I don't know about DrWeb.
    I just uninstalled KAV 3.5 and am using the latest version of F-Secure.(See F-Secure thread) It is also a great AV, but it is pricey.
    I really would like to see NOD32 included in more AV testing. It would give us a better understanding of how it does some place other than VirusBulletin.
    I personally think you would be well protected by NOD32, KAV, DrWeb, or F-Secure. That's assuming they have no conflicts on your machine.
    Nice to have choices huh? :D

    Have testing whole night DrWeb (my wife didn't really like that :'( ), and I must make a statement about DrWeb.

    I REALLY LIKE IT, THIS IS THE FIRST COMBINED ANTI-VIRUS/TROJAN PROGRAM THAT IS DOING HIS JOB VERY WELL!!! :cool:

    In the past I have tried always everything available on the market, and I was always disappointed about the results, till last night.

    Only with one of your points I can't agree, "easier install".
    If you want that DrWeb is perfect working, you have to moderate a lot in the ini-files, and only after doing so DrWeb is working just perfect!

    After my test-experiences, I think NOD32 is also very good but more for the "newbie", and DrWeb is for the girls & guys with experience. ;)
