    ... and the reality: The browsers are as fast as 1995 :oops: I can't stand that propaganda any more ...

    Well, when every other browser works and Opera doesn't, I call that Opera being borked, not the website...

    Other browsers incorporate non-standard fixes (read: IE fixes) to alleviate potential rendering problems.

    Indeed, and I'm not saying acid3 is the be all end all, but it does score 100 (well has for a while, but anyway)

    While I'm not going to go so far as to say they are as fast as they were in 1995, I agree that the "browser wars" don't mean a thing anymore. How about browser developers work on improving attacks against them? I mean, I get it, such and such browser now renders even faster than that other browser that renders faster than us mortals can perceive. Allow me a moment to step away and bake a cookie for said browser....wait, the browser just fell victim to another attack. The cookie is denied.

    Depends on what you use as your "standard".

    If you use acid3, then the website is "borked".

    If you use other browsers, then Opera is "borked".

    So, what will you use.:p

    Yes i don't need for instance widgets and i don't use it before you say so. When you comment like this "if you dont need dont use it" do you try to show other poster like a fool? You are really funny. Or is this an Opera slogan because i saw it several times at Opera Forums. You use this answer like a hammer to put others head and you suddenly cut all conversation off.

    If the problem is going to be fastest, congraculations opera you won. But if the matter is usability, there are tons of features which i barely use in Opera and you say don't use it, i can't understand this. Why a browsers integrates a lot of things into itself which others don't use? Why don't they seperate it? It really disturb me to mail function or RSS reader function stand back over there somewhere while i am not using them.

    Use firefox for extensions, use opera for speed actually i can't see an end. I think i am going to back internet explorer :)

    This is pretty much how I feel. Thankfully it's free to keep changing my car(browser) to what I perceive to be the best for me.

    I had to see for myself.
    This is faster than anything else that I have tried for a browser on my box.
    Opera 10.5 is a pre-alpha and it shows. Crashed on me once already.
    When they get this version stabilized, I might go back to Opera as my main browser.

    And thats as it should be.

    I use Opera and will continue to do so, but it makes no sense to suggest that everyone else should do the same. To me its not about raw speed but overall user experience. I like the Opera interface and features, others do not and it make perfect sense that they would and should use whatever their preference is. In the end it really makes no difference if one browser is a bit faster or slower than another but rather which tool a particular individual prefers to use.

    I don't have any problems with rendering web pages.

    with the 2 speed tweaks I posted before I am finding this new opera with admuncher setup to be faster than my firefox with admuncher setup.

    I'm sorry, but what nonsense is this?

    "If you don't need it, then don't use it" isn't other people trying to show you as a fool, it's nothing but simple common sense. And if you're really all that surprised by it, I don't think you need anyone's help to show you as a fool at all.

    Give me a break. Are you really short-sighted enough to believe that Opera should ignore the rest of their millions of users, and you're the only one whose wants and needs that Opera is supposed to cater to?

    What do you have against "if you don't need it, then don't use it", really?

    May I remind all Wilders members to take a step back from personal attacks and read No offense?! Yes, really!!.

    If the present course continues, I'll have no choice but to close this thread. Its fate is in your hands!

    Hi Tester, this thread is mainly about the new beta version, that was released this month, you may want to try that.

    I tried Opera 10.50 Beta. From my perspective of relevant use:

    LOOK:
    - is better than the one of the previous version, GUI design principles were clearly inspired on Google Chrome, but many details (like the X on tabs) aren't as polished as they are in Google Chrome;
    - high number of customization possibilities;
    - includes support to Windows 7 features like Aero Glass, Aero Peek and Jumplists. There are still many ugly bugs here and there.

    SPEED:
    - continues to consume fewer system resources (CPU and memory) than other browsers, but there is still no Tab/plug-in isolation;
    - the new JavaScript engine makes web-pages and synthetic tests that rely on JavaScript content really way faster to load;
    - the new Vega graphics library makes the browser less sluggish - by the way, this was never really an issue in Opera like it is in Firefox.

    PRIVATE BROWSING:
    - more practical, now supporting individual tabs;
    - its name may be somewhat misleading, since there is no control of content stored by third-party plug-ins such as Adobe Flash Player;
    - I'm not sure of what Private Browsing method Opera 10.50 uses, but if it is like the IE 8's method, content can be retrieved using appropriate tools.

    MISSING FEATURES:
    - Tab/plug-in isolation, like in Google Chrome and IE 8;
    - RSS/Atom Livemarks, like in Firefox and IE 8.
    - RoboForm support, like in Firefox and IE 8.

    I'm sorry. What I really tried was the 10.50 beta, but the 9.5 version number was in my head for some reason... Anyways, my post is fixed now. Thanks.
    Feed management in Opera is good, but livemarks are the RSS/Atom feeds that you can place directly at the Bookmarks Bar (Firefox) or Favorites Bar (IE 8 ). For this reason, livemarks provide an easier and faster way to see RSS/Atom feeds.

    Password Management in Opera - the famous Wand - is satisfactory, but nothing beats RoboForm in this area. Unfortunately, Opera only works with the JS based RF...

    KeePass is all what you need for Opera, one hotkeys combination and all fields like username/password are filed quickly :thumb:

    I too installed Opera after reading this thread and while it's fast I really can't tell the difference between it and Iron Portable (Chrome based). Firefox use to be my main browser, but it's slowed down a bit, perhaps on account of all the addons and plugins I added (KeyScrambler in particular)...

    But if you have a fast computer and a fast connection, then all these browsers work so fast that I don't know how anyone could tell the difference in real life?

    p.s. Keepass works with Firefox, Iron and Opera - but you have to assigns names for password entries according to site names for the auto-type thing to work.

    Opera 10.5 needs to improve the Google search feature like providing auto suggestions in order gain more browser market.

    Hi Elapsed.
    I'm using Oper 10,50 pre-alpha build 3186.
    Which version are you referring to?

    The least amount of problems I've had is with FF, but in older versions of FF there were bad memory leaks, hopefully that is a thing of the past...
