I must say though... I don't like the alternatives a whole lot.


Laspass says they store users login details (albeit..apparently in encrypted state) on their servers, and KeePass requires a third party plugin to make it work as a form filler? That has me more worried than Roboform does.

If your system is clean...Roboform seems like a safe choice. If a KeePass third party plugin is compromised... though I'm not making such an accusation... that has the potential for a very negative outcome. To use KeePass on its own, to me seems like an inconvenience (cutting & pasting). To use Lastpass seems like quite the leap of faith.

Have I missed something?... is there a better approach?

From the beginning the guy gets it wrong. It's free trial software that reverts to only handling a few passwords after X number of days. The money that comes from buyers of Roboform PRO pays for its development. It is NOT software "they just give away." If the guy doing the research got that simple fact wrong - what else is wrong?

What "security threat" in Roboform PRO bothers anybody here? The fact the passwords are in plain text on your PC after you enter the master password means nothing. You take them outside the application environment and try to open them - you cannot.

Roboform PRO is $30. The best thirty bucks I've ever spent.

I found the blog post horrible in the fact he doesn't even understand the basics as to how Roboform works and yet some people will read it and think he's some sort of expert. Just terrible.

EDIT: I just read that post again and am stunned with his lack of understanding. He worries about a keylogger getting your MASTER password to Roboform. What's some guy going to do with your master Roboform password without physical access to your PC? There's not a single piece of malware out there that could do anything with that information. The guy's just ignorant and sadly spreading misinformation. And if you have a keylogger, you've got worse problems than Roboform that's for sure.

Never used Roboform myself, so it's good to hear from someone who does and thinks highly of it. Thanks for clearing things up, as i only posted the link because i felt people that used it might like to check it out. Glad you did, as you appear to know your onions. I tried to post a link back to here from that site, but couldn't as you need to register.
