My pc is running safe AND light and I like to read here to hear about new stuff and opinions and sometimes helping out. Don't really know what's paranoia about that... Armed to the teeth and running smooth is possible. It just takes some time to get there, but not a whole lot.

I think it's plenty. This has been my approach for the best of the last 3 years: a virtual program + a scanner on demand (see my signature). If things might get too serious- Image backup -the only real final solution.

Interestingly enough, I have only restored images of my systems for conflicts and configurations mistakes which seemed irreversible or beyond my limited knowledge and patience, never for malware.

I've tried them all: A-Squared, SuperAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes Anti Malware, Prevx, Hitman Pro. None of these applications have found one single even suspicious object on the 3 machines under my supervision ( I pick one of the above mentioned scanners every 3 months for a scan), and oddly enough not even one FP.

People keep going on about Vista being slow, bloated etc. there is only one reason that slows down a computer: if it's not an infection, too many security applications will be the cause, even though the makers might claim their applications to be very light.

I'm sure it does, but at one point or another (or at least the case with me), one does get struck by it.
    _____

I added a trial version of A2 to my setup. While i enjoy its IDS, makes me wonder if its OVERKILL with Malware Defender. In any case, I do need its scanner.

I believe my words were taken out of context, or misinterpreted. I was speaking on my behalf, not the community (though im sure some people do get a bit paranoid after reading about all the security options available). Only recently, have i stopped myself.

    Paranoia smaranoia lol.

    I don't have a security setup.

I am using w7 32bit now, using Sandboxie forcing all internet facing apps, you know, customized as much as I can get it.

I am using a little tool I made called SaferZone to start things AS a basic user. Since SRP cannot do what it did in XP/Vista, this is my alternative. I am cooking up some options to make it work without intervention, but right now I either right click an item to start it SAFER or I drop it onto my tool.

I am running as Admin, with UAC/LUA turned off.

Firewall is currently off, although that will change when I work my way around to learning something about it.

No AV, no AS, no Hips, no, umm, nothing. I turned off a pot load of services, and in general have been doing everything that I know of or can learn of to make this NOT what M$ designed it to be for 98% of the world.

I am relying on my router (for the moment) to keep uglies out of my internal network. I am depending on SBIE and SAFER to restrict all internet facing apps (within reason) to only user rights.

Next comes some good old fashined Kees style tweaking. Stripping away rights that don't need to be there etc.

All in all, I would say my last year here has led me to an en"light"ened state :argh:

    Sul.

OMG guys, i think you guys know what happened again.
Not even 24 hours and he uninstalled it, he also uninstalled Norton before. :cautious:
Damn, i won't install any antivirus, i hope a big and mean virus kills this PC so he learns.

He uninstalled G-Data because it scans sometimes HTTP content (I put it at a max 1MB size) it takes like 5 seconds and he gets all mad. RETARDED.
I really hope this PC go to hell so he learns. :ninja:

I don't think G-Data uses 200MB of ram, the installer is 250MB+, but ram usage could be around 100MB+ :D
Maybe i'll check if i install it again
