I used the latest version of Auslogics Defrag and did a Defrag & Optimize, and after the process my hard drive went from 28GB to 36GB.

    Anyone know why?

If that's true, why did my hard drive increase by 8GB :p

Maybe you misread what I said... after the defrag + optimize my hard drive is BIGGER by 8GB.

I wonder what the 8GB is?

So your saying you lost 8Gbs of space because Auslogics added 8Gbs somewhere?

you need to clarify if you mean:

    1) Your HD actually reports as being larger (Capacity)
    2) You gained 8GB of free space
    3) You lost 8GB of free space

If you lost, it's probably because you have VSS enabled when you defrag. Read more about it @ http://www.perfectdisk.com/support/kb/768
