Weird, I just noticed that Firefox keeps spiking to 100% CPU every 10 or so seconds. Turned out it was the Behavior Shield causing the spike, no more spike after disabling it. Anybody else see this?

That seems to be the first 'action' of the behaviour shield world-wide :D

Does the Behaviour Block for the 64 bit version work? or are they still working on it?

Out of all the antivirus company's I think Avast! is the fastest at releasing new builds that fix bugs.

Thanks, Rednose! It's almost time for me to migrate from v4.8. I tend towards the overly cautious, I suppose. I think I'll install over top, like you did, Red. Did you also go from 4.8 to 5.0 over top, or just from one new 5.0 build to another?

I'm pretty excited about the way avast! handles their business with releases and bug repairs. Once I see it is running smoothly, I think it will be time for me to become a paying customer. :thumb:

I'd say he is acknowledging that this repair may not be the one that fixes it completely for everyone.
Sounds like a realist to me. :)

To be honnest this is the first time I tried to install over the top. Personaly I would do an install from scratch when upgrading from 4.8 :)

I cleaned out my brothers machine with an Avast 5 boot time scan today. Full scans with AVG 9, MBAM, and A-Squared free all missed it, all 3 scans actually came up 100% clean. I thought I'd set up with the new Avast 5 because I prefer Avast and MSE for free AV programs. Decided to run a boot time scan with Avast for the heck of it and surprisingly it found a trojan dropper the others had missed, it was called Win32:VB-OKI. I'm a big believer in the boot time scan feature.

How heavy is it on resources?

Slow down your PC a lot?

I click to download the free ENGLISH version, and it says:

We're sorry, but the page you requested could not be found.

I have been trialing it the last few days and find it very light. Almost as light as Avira and with a very nice GUI...:D

Running the latest free avast. Looks good, and yeah, seems light.

But what is avast's detection rate like, and how does it compare with the leading AV's suck as Kaspersky, Norton etc which have a very high detection rate?

The Pro version of Avast! adds a script blocker, as in the version 4 upgrade, but the major new feature is a virtualization capability (sandbox) available from the context menu or by selection in advance.
