My Monitor Screen Keeps Moving Up & Down What Would Cause That!

I've been having issues with my monitor screen moving up & down at a high rate & I'm thinking it's a bad driver or would a virus do it.

I've check to see it I'm the only user on the computer & I am so I think it a driver issue, is there a software program that can diagnose the problem.

 

When does this happen? Is it scrolling up and down? Is your mouse new or old?

I ask these questions to find out more details. I also ask because if you happen to click the scroll wheel of the mouse, it acts like a button. When you click it, the page will scroll up and down (and side to side) with the movement of the mouse. To turn it off again you would need to click the scroll wheel once more.

 

The screen scrolls up & down the bar on the right in IE 8 moves.
I've got an older mouse with a wheel in the center.

Is there any software to diagnose it I'm thinking it's a video
driver problem.

 

See if it happens in safe mode. Very strange if the the scroll bar in IE is moving independantly.

 

I've updated both the video & monitor drivers & I'll see if that
fixed it.

 

too easy to fix drivers if not you may need a new GPU

 

What do you mean by you may need a new GPU. By the way the driver update didn't do it
it's not happening as much though.

Got a spare mouse you could swap? No? Borrow one and eliminate the possibility.

 

Why do you guys think it the mouse when the monitor's flicking.

Simple. Confirm the condition persists with a different mouse in place and you can lay the possibility to rest.

Were it me, I would try to identify the problem, as it is either:
a) Computer / software / cabling / driver / malware(?) issue.
b) CRT is getting tired

Borrow a small monitor (or laptop) from friend / neighbor.
You will be able to ID the problem in moments.
