lol yeah that was for sure a bad performance. i have to say i used to LOVE avira but after actually being infected a few times while using it im not sure it would be my main av to this day. back then eset went on after avira came off and since i have not used avira as my main av though its probably better now than it used to be.

Default avast! operation is set to full automatic. But as far as i know you can use it as casal firewall where you have to decide everything.

About AVIRA in that test, i was really surprised since it never did this bad. And it even got corrupted. Now i know samples were not the same for all 3 (i guess), but avast! did pretty well, even though it missed some). At least it was still working, meaning self-defense works properly.

When on 32 bits operating system, try the new DW V3 and Avast together. DW V2 has been used by many Wilders Memebers with click happy family.

Really like Avast 5, it's light and fast. But this "persistant caching" thing, is that safe? What happens when you are hit with a new virus? Are these files ever scanned again against new virus-updates?

Non signed executables are put in the transinient cache. This cache empties after every signature update, so they will be rescanned against new signatures.

Signed executables are put in the persistant cache, although signatures are not a 100% guarantee that a file is safe (misuse is possible), rumours about misuse are as solid as the monkey sandwich stories which happened to a friend of friend. So I would say it is safe.

    Regards

Do you mean Avast 5 includes something like "fingerprint technology" ?

That's an interesting question. The way I see it is that if for example you're using Opera browser with Avast, then by default the Avast Sandbox will redirect all disk writes to it's sandbox creating let's call it Operamod.exe.If you then run Operamod.exe within sandboxie then it'll create a greater 'sandbox within a sandbox' so I don't think they'd actually conflict with one another, that's just my guess though.:doubt:

its in the Pro version and the IS. in the sandbox options u can set it to make a border around the program, and its only for programs, not ur whole OS.

That could be an issue if Avast's sandbox is a full scale one rather than a more limited containment as some suites have employed.Tbh I'm not entirely sure of the internal mechanics hence the :doubt:

If the corresponding minidump was created (C:\Windows\Minidump), could you please upload it to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming ?

I have a feeling that the new interface will turn out to be their major asset in terms of market share. Incredibly well done from a usability perspective yet with strong mass appeal...

Agreed. I completely dismissed the old version mostly due to the GUI.
