Hi people: I am getting the Process Guard interface on my desktop when I log on. The systray icon is there as well, but the opened interface is new. I just had the now infamous 5 item Windows Update experience and things have been a bit funny since. I also run Panda AV and many times, (not always) it will not appear in systray, yet taskman shows it to be running. If I click to open it from the start menu, I have to enable it's "Permanent Protection" feature all over again. This is supposed to be automatically on. Any ideas would be appreciated. Mine is XP home with all updates and service packs.

    Hi,

Did you change the startup shortcut for PG ? It should automatically be added with the installer.

Did you allow all Windows Updates to run ? there should be no problem as long as they all installed and you rebooted. You might find that Panda needs an update because of those, and you should email their support team and see if anyone else has seen the same issue after the recent updates.

Please disable PG protection and reboot, then show us what you have in the protected list. Re-enable it afterwards.

 Hi Gavin: Well, I got torn away (ouch) from my computer for several days, please forgive a late response to your quick reply. I re-installed the Panda and the PG. I followed the recommended procedure for uninstalling the PG. I tried everything again. This time , I tried things in sequence. The problem seems to have been East-Tec Eraser. When running its Privacy Guard feature, it scrubs lots of windows files. It reboots the machine to gain access to the locked Windows files. I gave it full permissions on the PG protected list. I trust it, and I figured it needed to have all permissions to do its job. I ran it and I got an error #5 Access Denied, then it rebooted anyway and when I re-logged on, it finished its job. I watched my taskbar load. I currently have PestPatrol Control, Cookie Patrol, PestPatrol Memcheck, Panda, and AdWatch, and PG as startup progs. Everything loaded but the Panda. I checked the PG log and found that pavproxy.exe and apvxdwin.exe were not loaded. I checked the permissions I had set for East-Tec Eraser and removed All the allows on silent.exe and eraser.exe (its two programs). I ran the Privacy Guard feature of East-Tec again and rebooted. Everything loaded just fine!
I have also made one change to my Spybot Search & Destroy configuration. It may be pertinent. I used to have my Spybot set to erase Usage Tracks. Among these is a file called SchedLgU.txt. This is apparently open if Scheduler service is enabled. I have Prefetch Clean and Contol set to monitor boot only, so my Scheduler service is turned on because xp prefetch uses it. I though maybe a conflict could come from either Spybot or East-Tec trying to wipe, or move this file while it is open. I excluded the Usage Tracks from Spybot scans in order to leave this file alone. I am mentioning this part in case other people have a similar set of software. And to record what I did for the sake of troubleshooting. IN CONCLUSION: THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH PROCESS GUARD! It could be argued, that PG was the tool that enabled me to troubleshoot what looks like a conflict between East-Tec Eraser and Panda.
PS I am too spent to venture into the other account on my computer and see if all is well there. If anything is squirrely and seems to involve PG, I will post it here. Again, thanks for your help and concern, and most of all for making this software!
