While it might be ok to do so,personally I'd always uninstall the old version first rather than do an upgrade install. That's just me though.

It's more than okay, it's easier because as long as it's Pro over Pro, your license will be converted automatically. If you uninstall 4.8 you'll have to get a 5 Pro license from here.

There's also a 50% discount for upgrades to the full suite (3-user). I think you lose any unused portion of your existing license though.

I believe a clean install is always best so I'd uninstall any previous version.

Download the new executable and fire it off. It will uninstall 4.8 and update Pro to the new version and keep your license info intact. YMMV.

Right. Stuff happens, which is why I mentioned "YMMV." The point is that avast! does not have to be uninstalled in order to upgrade to the new version.

Why do people always ask this? Just uninstall and reinstall. You'll be done before anyone even replies to your post.

    It's a perfectly legitimate question.

Some clean installs remove the settings you worked hard to arrange.

Generally, the software vendors will tell if you need to do a clean install or not.

    Let's post in the original thread. -- > https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=263285
