The icon problem seems to be pretty common, and, you're not the only one to complain about it when using FD-ISR. As far as the 100 extra processes...where did you download Avast from? It sounds like you have way more than an Avast problem.

What are you comparing it to ? Seems like one of the lightest ones on the Market.

For all that it does, I have to agree, if you want light Avast is one of the better picks.

Maybe it just doesn't agree with his hardware/software set up.

Guess it could be something like that but it is lighter than MSE on my system, and I have had no problems hardly at all. Matter of fact I didn't have too many problems during the beta period. But what NAMOR said makes sense.

What about at Windows startup? On my spare pc that I installed it on, it consumes all of the cpu (2.4g single core) for a little while updating and scanning at initial Windows startup. I am not used to that with my last few av's that I have used.

For it to be heavy it would have to be a P300 with 128 megs of ram on Windows Vista. that's all I'm saying.

Have any of you guys tried messing around with the troubleshooting settings of avast! and see if that helps? For instance, if you notice a slowdown at Windows boot, try checking the box Load avast! services only after loading other system services under the Troubleshooting window. You can also try disabling the rootkit scan, etc.

Lastly, if you really want good support, the avast! forums are where you want to be ;)

This is a very good point, I checked after reading this post and I have the load only after loading other services enabled so that might help.
Johnny Dollar--- On my old HP desktop with like 256mb ram avast 4.8 used to do that same thing but on that same machine avast 5 runs great.

Using the free version; it seems to be running pretty well here on 64-bit. AIS was slower and I probably can't afford it anyway.

I have a question about AIS's firewall, though: on auto-decide, how does it set rules for the different applications? I notice it will grant different permissions, but have "in other cases - auto-decide."

Could be conflicts with old AV/security software installs, hardware drivers, other software doing back ground tasks, etc.

Then why call it crap ? I mean seriously. Then people are calling a program a "Waste" just becuse they can't maintain there own system. :doubt:

Even tho I don't use Avast on any of my Main systems, it is on a server system that I use for backups and for Game servers when needed. Avast is perfect for it. It's light and runs good with nearly no issues. I would never consider it crapware.

Lol, why is it, every new product gets PCMag to do their grand opening review. Prevx? Seems you aint nobody at the start till PCMag stamps their approval on you.

Not aimed at you Infinity, with all due respect, but the other night, some here where beating the heck out of each other about testers. I will throw PCMag now into that catagory.;)

I don't worry about anyone. Nothing like a good argument to get the blood flowing. Even though most of these arguments accomplish nothing except disappointing the mods.

Does Avast's shields (web, email, P2P, etc) use the same engine as Avast file shield? If so, how does it improve protection?
