    Hi,
I'm testing v4.2 on 2 Windows 7 PC (French version, 32 & 64 bits). On both PC, there's a problem with HTTxxxx.tmp files in C:\Windows\Temp contains that are (apparently) not automatically deleted. Immediatly after uninstalling Nod32 on my laptop, I recovered 7Gb of free space !! (only 150Mb on desktop...)
So, there's probably a bug with this version... or not (I'll try to reinstall 4.2 later)

An application running on your computer is continually downloading data via HTTP without finishing the stream. Couldn't it be that you're using a camera that streams video via http protocol ?

Actually, I am noticing the same thing on my system now that I check. But I don't think its a 4.2 beta bug, but a 4.x bug in general as some of the files there pre-dates the 4.2 beta. I had an object in there from October.

At this moment, I have 1000+ objects that totals over 27GB in size. Thankfully most of the files deleted right away.

I might make a suggestion that ESET have an internal scheduled task of "garbage collection" to delete temp files older than 2 or 3 days.

I'm not doing any webcam/streaming on this system. It's strictly for business.

Just did a check on my home system which I do webstreaming/recording of video. It has nearly 1400 objects listed with the htt* prefix but only totalling 19GB, oldest object being September 12th.

At least I know where all my disk space has been going now. :)

    Hi,
Size of certain files is big enough to be http streaming (youtube/dailymotion/...) If you don't wait the entire download of a video, youtube probably starts a new stream for each for(back)ward ?

    Hello there,

I have absolutely the same problem with NOD32 4.0.*** version.

C:\Windows\Temp is increasing size on Win7 64bits and still don't know how to fix it, because it (the ekrn.exe) has eaten 7 GBs so far...

How I know that ekrn.exe is the problem - simply used the "Unlocker" variant for Win7 and it came up to be that exe file that locks and makes those temporary file impossible for deleting.

    Solutions ?

If you're that bothered about temp files building up why not just run CCleaner on a daily basis http://www.ccleaner.com/
imho I don't see that temp files are a problem at all. They are what the name suggests, temporary files.

You just don't have NOD32 installed that scans all yr network traffic , that's why u are suggesting useless things and probably you don't understand the meaning of the word 'locked file' - CCleaner is useless ;) Any way - problem solved.

Just checked and unchecked some things in the "Realtime" defence of NOD32 n there are no temp files any more, NOD32 is not a proxy any more for scanning traffic.

In case htt*.tmp files are continually being created in the temp folder, check the statistics for web access protection for the url to the currently scanned file and exclude it from content filtering in the HTTP setup - Address management.

    Hi all,

I think, this is not a good idea because this site will not be scanned for maleware. I have the same problem and it appears visiting sites with video content e.g. youtube. watching a video and while watching play forward, watching another video, play forward, and so on creates a massive amount of htt****.tmp files in c windows temp. The Problem is not NOD is creating these files, the problem is NOD is NOT deleting these files after scanning.

The problem appears in version 4.0 and 4.2. Is Eset planning to fix this bug? And if yes, when?

    regards, leschy

The problem is the http stream is not ended correctly so EAV/ESS doesn't know when to close the file and scan it. I have never seen this problem with youtube, but I'll try again while keeping an eye on the temp folder. What OS does the problem with youtube unfinished streams concern?

Both of my computers I have installations on are Windows 7 Business and Ultimate x64 as well. I still have to check my HP netbook at home with Windows 7 Home Premium x86 to see if it has the same thing, and I'll report back.

    Thx Geosoft.

I recently installed Kaspersky Antivirus and watched some videos on youtube. There all the .tmp files were stored in user appdata local temp. No big difference, but Kaspersky is deleting these files, after creating. Everytime you jump forward in a video the old .tmp files will be deleted and a new one will be created. Closing the browser finally deletes all .tmp files. Why can't NOD do that in this way?

On my XP-sp3 machine the file is created in Windows/Temp as soon as the you tube video starts.

If I pause the video, move back and forth in the video the file stays the same size. When I restart the video the file does not change in size.

As soon as I close the browser window the file is removed, even if the video is still downloading.

While I don't watch many you tube video's I don't have any of these files remaining.

Just to report back, my netbook running Windows 7 Home Premium x86 does show signs on htt*.tmp files being stored in the temp directory without being removed.

Does Eset plan to fix this bug in version 4.2?

For me it is not acceptable because other antivirus programs do not have this bug and with win xp it doesn't appear, only with win 7 / vista.

hey guys, it's me again. :)

I tested it with version 4.0.474 and there is the same problem like in version 4.2. beta. If you watch the video until the end, then eset deletes the .tmp file. The problem seems to appear if you jump back and forward while the video is still loading.

Thank you for the assistence, we've pinpointed the issue. The problem first manifested with v. 4.0 and affects only EAV on Vista SP1 and newer. ESS is not affected. The issue will be fixed in the release version 4.2.

Thx Marcos for your fast reply! That's what customers expect!

Can confirm, with ESS (v4.2. beta) the problem doesn't appear, all created .tmp files will be deleted after closing the browser.
