Adapter has incorrect IP address...

I am one inch closer to resolving the issues of Windows 7 64bit, ESS firewall and issues with dropping connection.

When I lose connection I had to disable Eset firewall to get it back working. No custom rules setup.

Seems the issue has to do with my Networking Adapter. It says something like "The assigned IP address to the Adapter is incorrect/failed to update..".

Not sure, I have automatically assigned the IP address. Also I am not clear why disabling Eset firewall brings the connection back to life.

Strange. I am just very unlucky. This is one issue, another battling over Svchost... Oh my dear, what have I done to deserve this life

 

Detailed steps and description of this weird eset related problem.

- laptop starts from stand-by mode
- waiting to connect, but connection not working (yellow triangle)
- resetting adapter in control panel/networking (disable/enable)
- still not working
- disabling eset ess firewall
- still nothing
- checked the Network/sharing centre
- started diagnosis... here is result...

Issues found
"DELL NETWORK ADAPTER" doesn't have a valid IP configuration
(issue can't be fixed)

Suggested solution: Investigate router or broadband modem issues

- turned Eset ess firewall back on
- turned of router (as suggested above), wait 15 seconds, turned back on
- still not working
- went to admin panel in firewall, disconnected / reconnected to internet provider
- checked connectivity from firewall to provider all OK
- my network still not working
- disabling eset ess firewall
- resetting adapter in control panel/networking (disable/enable)
- CONNECTION ON !!!!
- re-enabling eset ess firewall
- all is well now !

Why all these steps, why is the ESS firewall the last one that matters.

 

Windows 7 handles network stuff differently. For this reason, it used to be necessary to reinstall NIC after using the ESET uninstall tool on Windows 7. Your issue sounds to be similar.

That worked. Connection OK now. Eset firewall seems working fine, all active and working.

But... I looked into Device Manager. I checked yes for "show hidden devices". This is missing from the list tree under the NIC card: "Eset Personal Firewall Miniport" Is the Miniport needed? What is it actually?

Strange, I have a second networking card which is wireless and I'm not using it. And the miniport listed there as it was before.

Any ideas about "Eset Personal Firewall Miniport" missing in the devices list? Is it OK? Is this required for firewall operation?
