    Hello!

I recently installed NOD32 v 4.0.474.0 on a windows 7 home premium 64 bit computer. So far I like it a lot and may purchase a subscription after the trial ends. My only problem so far, and it may not be a NOD32 problem, is that if I have real time file protection active, insert a xd or sd card and import pictures to windows the next time I boot the computer up, it will run chkdsk. If I disable NOD32 and import pictures, this does not happen. Any ideas on why this may occur?

    Thanks

I have the same problem - see my posts on the ESET Smart Security forum. It is a very disturbing error, as it gives Event ID 55 in the event log, and many helpful people will tell you that this means your hard drive is failing !
I reported the problem to ESET, who asked me to try various different settings, but I don't have the time for that. In my mind something as simple as importing pictures should not need special advanced settings.
For the moment I have switched to Microsoft Security Essentials which does not seem to give this problem (and it's free!).

Thanks for the replies! I also get Event ID 55 in the event viewer the second I import the picutures. I have also seen throughout the internet that this may suggest a failing hdd. However, the people that have been told this get chkdsk on almost every boot. This is a new computer purchased in September that came with vista and I later installed W7. To this point, this is the only problem I have had with this computer with vista or w7 installed. I have not tried Microsoft Security Essentials yet, but I may soon. I used NOD32 v2.7 on my other computer for a long period of time with no serious issues. I would like to continue using NOD32 v 4 if I can get this figured out.

    Hi fosl,

I can assure you that there is no problem with your hard drive.
When I first got this problem I did not realize it was to do with ESET and picture transfer. I did all kind of thorough disk diagnostics with absolutely no errors found.
At one point I was all set to replace my hard drive (or the whole computer) and then I saw some references on the internet to some anti-virus programs causing Event 55 with Windows 7. I see that Avira have issued a patch to their anti-virus software to fix the chkdsk problem, but I think the problem may also lie with Microsoft. This never occurred with Vista.

Have you tried some of the recommendations/findings in my previous reply?

Hello siljaline, I did try the suggestions in the link you provided. Same result after I import pictures. For now, I have installed MSE on that particular computer. I will be testing NOD32 v4 on another computer that is running vista ultimate soon. Previous versions of NOD32 worked on the vista computer, so hopefully v4 will also.

Hello fosl, at least you have AV protection on that PC although it's not ESET's it is better than none. I have a number of friends running ESET AV v4 on Vista machines of various flavors without issue, hang in there, this is what we are here for :)
Also: Go here for all your Win 7 issues, it's were Microsoft supports the new OS Officially.
